007 First Light has revealed its main cast, headlined by Patrick Gibson who plays James Bond in the game. The James Bond games preceding 007 First Light involved popular actors from the movies, such as Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, providing their respective likenesses for the legendary spy.

007 First Light Teases Post-Launch Content Plans

As soon as 007 First Light was unveiled in June, sections of James Bond fans started speculating about who was starring as the iconic hero in the game. While there was no official confirmation at the time, people on the internet started connecting the dots by themselves and came up with possible names that were perceived to be resembling the character shown in the trailer. This player interest further grew when a 007 First Light dev suggested IO Interactive was deliberately withholding the actor's name, so that fans "care about the game first." However, that stance has apparently changed at last.

007 First Light Stars Patrick Gibson as James Bond

During PlayStation's 007 First Light-centric State of Play, it was revealed that Patrick Gibson, an Irish actor, is the one taking on the mantle of James Bond in the upcoming title. Speaking about playing his role, the main lead said that it was "thrilling" to bring the character of the popular MI6 agent to life in the video game medium. Prior to this role, he recently featured in 2025's Dexter: Original Sin as the titular character. Additionally, Gibson shared that Lennie James is starring as 007's mentor, Greenway, whereas M is being played by Priyanga Burford. Furthermore, Alastair Mackenzie is featured in the game as Q, Kiera Lester plays the role of Moneypenny, and Noemie Nakai steps into the shoes of Miss Roth, a character with whom Bond teams up for a car chase, as shown in the deep dive gameplay video.

007 First Light is turning out to be an intriguingly unique project in the James Bond series of video games. Not only does the game follow an origin story with certain notable story cues picked from the novels, it also features a non-mainstream actor in the central role. The latter aspect is quite unlike an array of Bond games that used popular faces, such as those of Sean Connelly and Daniel Craig, for the face of James Bond, making 007 First Light something different in that regard.

With IO Interactive's James Bond game scheduled to hit the shelves on March 27, 2026, there is a six-month window for the devs to consolidate the game in the final stretch of development, which began around 2020. If the action-adventure title comes out in good shape and exhibits the kind of flair present in the Danish studio's Hitman franchise, then it could possibly kickstart a new cohesive game series in the James Bond universe.
