While it still has yet to be confirmed by IO Interactive, chances are good that Patrick Gibson is playing James Bond in 007 First Light. IO Interactive first announced its James Bond video game in 2020, but it wasn't until just recently that the project got its official name and first details. 007 First Light is a third-person action-adventure game with the shooting, stealth, and explosive vehicle segments that fans have come to expect from James Bond video games.

James Bond movies tend to follow the character when they are relatively seasoned in the field and already middle-aged, but 007 First Light will instead feature a rookie Bond in his mid-20s. This new take on James Bond was showcased in 007 First Light's reveal trailers, but IO Interactive stopped short of announcing who exactly is playing the iconic character in the new video game. We're still waiting on the official announcement, but it is looking increasingly likely that 007 First Light's young James Bond is played by Patrick Gibson of Dexter: Original Sin fame.

It didn't take long after 007 First Light's trailers were released for fans to theorize that Bond is being played by Patrick Gibson. After all, the new Bond looks strikingly similar to Gibson. Now Gibson himself has added to the speculation, confirming in an interview with Emmy magazine that he is currently working on a video game (as spotted by ComicBook). Gibson didn't reveal the exact video game he is working on, but between the fact that Bond in the game looks near-identical to Gibson and Gibson is not associated with any other video games, the most likely scenario is that he is indeed playing James Bond in 007 First Light.

007 First Light's James Bond is Most Likely Played by Patrick Gibson

Gibson's fame has reached new heights lately, largely thanks to his well-reviewed performance on Dexter: Original Sin. A prequel to the original Dexter series on Showtime, Gibson portrays the title character, Dexter Morgan, as he attempts to navigate the early days of his serial killer life. Michael C. Hall's portrayal of Dexter is so iconic that many were skeptical about another actor stepping into the role, but by all accounts, Gibson knocked it out of the park.

Gibson will return as Dexter in Dexter: Original Sin Season 2, which has been picked up by Paramount+. In the meantime, it's likely that 007 First Light will confirm that Gibson is indeed the one playing James Bond in the new game at some point in the months ahead.
