What is 100M About?

Plot and Background Information

100M follows a young man named Togashi, a naturally gifted runner who won every single 100m race he ran in primary school until, one day in the sixth grade, a transfer student named Komiya joins his class. Komiya lacks technique, but is extremely determined, so Togashi teaches him and instills within Komiya the desire to win at all costs. A few years go by, and the two meet again, this time as rivals on the track; the arena where they become their truest selves. 100M was originally created by award-winning mangaka, Uota, the brilliant mind behind Orb: On the Movements of the Earth, and it was the author's first serialization, which was published on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket app from November 2018.

The upcoming anime film adaptation of 100M is directed by Kenji Iwaisawa at ROCK'N'ROLL MOUNTAIN, where he was also responsible for directing ON-GAKU: Our Sound in 2019. Keisuke Kojima serves as the chief animation director and is also responsible for character designs, while Keikankun Yamaguchi serves as art director. The brand-new trailer revealed the involvement of composer Hiroaki Tsutsumi, whom you might know as the composer of the Jujutsu Kaisen soundtrack. The cast revealed to play the roles of Togashi and Komiya are actor Tori Matsuzaka and Shōta Sometani, who played Minoru Okabe in Makoto Shinkai's 2023 anime film, Suzume.

100M is set to hit Japanese theatres on September 19. GKIDS has acquired the anime film for North American release in October.
