One of the greatest horror franchises in the last 20+ years is finally ready to get another installment. The third chapter of the 28 Days Later saga, 28 Years Later is one of those projects that has had fans excited for a while now, even if they didn’t have any details about what the next movie would include. However, it looks like there are now some plot details out there.

Among the details finally being released is that the horror franchise is moving quickly. Not only has shooting wrapped for 28 Years Later, but shooting has wrapped for its sequel as well. While there isn’t any details about when the third movie is going to start production, it looks like things are moving right along.

28 Years Later Details Are Enticing

28 Years Later star Ralph Fiennes recently talked to Indiewire about the progress that’s been made on the next two films. In addition to the beans he spilled on shooting being completed on the next two moves in this beloved horror franchise he also finally also talked details about the plot.

Fiennes said that the next film will pick up in a Britain that is 28 years into the rage plague and its gone so out of control that the infected have essentially taken over the country again. Much like in the original 28 Days Later, there are still pockets of uninfected people hiding out from those carrying the disease. However, instead of trying to avoid being seen, this new flick centers on a young boy who wants to find someone to help his dying mother. In order to find that help, the boy will need to move through the “beautiful” English countryside. The problem, of course is that while the scenery is great, it’s also chock-full of infected all over the woods and in the hills.

Fiennes did share one other detail about this new i nstallment in the 28 Days Later saga. At some point, as the boy makes his way through the area he does eventually find a doctor who agrees to help his mother. This particular doctor, according to Fiennes is “weird and odd, but actually is a force for good.”

With that synopsis, there are still some rather obvious questions, with the most prominent being how a disease that always burned itself out in a matter of weeks because the rage zombies died of thirst and starvation has taken over the entire country for several years. The most likely answer to that question is that the virus has mutated in a way that’s allowed the infected people to have some ability to think to the point where they understand they need to eat or drink. Or perhaps they’ve morphed more into full-on zombies that don’t need to eat or drink to remain upright, moving and infecting or killing everyone they run across. The good news is that the answer to those questions are on the verge of getting answered when Fiennes joins the other 28 Years Later stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O'Connell, Erin Kellyman, and the returning Cillian Murphy who is expected to make a cameo appearance at least if he doesn’t have a larger role on June 30, 2025.
