33 Immortals now has a release date: March 18. Its early access version will be available on several platforms, in addition to launching as a day-one Xbox Game Pass title.

Originally announced during the June 2023 Xbox Games Showcase, 33 Immortals is the latest title from Thunder Lotus Games, a Canadian studio known for its chill and poignant management sim Spiritfarer. It plays like an action roguelike from a top-down perspective, and is Thunder Lotus's first-ever multiplayer game. Its online component is central to 33 Immortals' design, with the roguelike revolving around 33-player co-op—hence the name. Thunder Lotus was initially targeting a late 2024 early access launch, but ended up delaying the game to 2025 back in October.

Four months later, the Montreal-based developer attached a concrete release date to its newest project, stating that 33 Immortals will launch in early access on March 18. The game will be simultaneously released for PC and the Xbox Series X/S. PC gamers wanting to play it outside of Microsoft's ecosystem will be able to do so via the Epic Games Store. It's currently unclear whether the roguelike's EGS exclusivity is of the timed or permanent variety. As previously announced, 33 Immortals will be a day-one Xbox Game Pass release, available on the PC and Ultimate tiers of the subscription service.

33 Immortals Was Inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy

The setting of 33 Immortals is heavily inspired by Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, a seminal narrative poem from the early 14th century. The game will have players taking control of damned souls adamant to rebel against God's final judgment. To do so, they'll have to get their hands dirty and face off against waves of monstrosities, ranging from pesky mobs to humongous bosses. "We’re proud to finally be able to deliver a genuinely unique co-op experience," said Thunder Lotus Creative Director Stephan Logier.

33 Immortals is poised to bolster the ever-growing selection of roguelikes on Xbox Game Pass. Like any other early access title available on Microsoft platforms, it will launch as part of the Xbox Game Preview program. Thunder Lotus hasn't yet said how long it plans to keep 33 Immortals in early access, but pledged that the game will keep evolving via community-driven updates and a variety of post-launch content. The 33 Immortals release date was revealed via a new trailer, which features hand-drawn animation and some older gameplay footage.

Will 33 Immortals Eventually Come To More Platforms?

Although the roguelike has so far only been confirmed for PC and the Xbox Series X/S, the first three Thunder Lotus games were also made available on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles—either on day-one or eventually. Therefore, it's possible that 33 Immortals will make its way to more platforms once its early access period comes to an end.
