Having access to a workbench is very important in 7 Days To Die. While it is possible to survive the first week using only basic materials crafted in the player's inventory, it won't take long for those tools and weapons to become ineffective. Unlike previous versions of the game, 7 Days To Die players won't be able to take down an existing workbench and rebuild it at their base. They will instead have to learn how to craft one for themselves.

How To Craft A Workbench

The Cost Of Crafting A Workbench

To unlock the ability to craft a workbench, you'll need to reach level 10 in Workstations. To do this, you'll need to read a total of 10 Forged Ahead magazines. These magazines can be found in mailboxes, book piles, broken workbenches and broken forges, and various other loot containers. They can also be purchased from traders and are sometimes given out as mission rewards.

Once you've read 10 Forged Ahead magazines, you'll unlock the ability to craft a workbench. Crafting a workbench can seem quite costly if you want to craft it early on. But, when it's broken down, obtaining the resources required is actually fairly straightforward. To craft a workbench, you'll need the following:

  • 25 x Forged Iron
  • 20 x Mechanical Parts
  • 5 x Duct Tape
  • 100 x Nails
  • 100 x Wood

Getting The Materials To Craft A Workbench

A Crafted Workbench

While forged iron is normally crafted in a forge, for players who don't have access to one, you can either purchase some from a trader or use a wrench to break down certain items. Things like cars and streetlights have a chance to contain some forged iron when broken down with a wrench.

Mechanical parts can reliably be obtained by breaking down vehicles with a wrench. As for nails, these can be found in most types of loot containers. They can also be purchased pretty cheaply from traders when they have them in stock.

Duct tape is another item that can commonly be found in various loot containers. It's also possible to craft duct tape by combining glue and cloth fragments. As for wood, wood can be found pretty much everywhere. Every biome in the game has at least a few trees that can be cut down for wood.
