Building is one of the core parts of 7 Days To Die, and the game offers players a large variety of building blocks to choose from. However, these block shapes are tucked behind a menu that the game doesn't tell players about.

Changing block shapes is pretty simple, and there are a few tricks to it that should make building an easier experience. Once you've picked a good spot to make your 7 Days To Die base, you'll want to know how to access the shapes menu if you want to make a home that's visually striking.

How To Change Block Shapes In 7 Days To Die

The shape of blocks can be changed by pressing and holding the Reload button (R/X/Square) while holding the block you want to place. Then, select the Shape option from the radial menu that pops up. Almost every building block in the game can be modified this way. If you're building a base, one good tip for 7 Days To Die beginners is to leave your Building Blocks as-is at the start of a build. Don't upgrade them until later so you won't have to spend time breaking each block down if you ever change your mind.

The cool thing about block shapes is you can transform them into a wide variety of objects that aren't necessarily blocky in nature. You can turn a simple wooden cube into a thin window frame, bars, boards, portholes, pillars, and a bunch of other shapes. One neat thing you can do is to copy the shape of a selected block. To do this, aim at the block you want to copy while holding a building block, then hold the Reload button to open the usual radial menu. Then, select the "Copy" option to the right of the Shapes button.

The durability of the block will stay the same regardless of what shape they take, so you can expect them to withstand reasonable amounts of damage as soon as you upgrade them. Likewise, the size or shape of your chosen block will not affect resource costs. By default, it will cost 8 Wood to upgrade a Frame block into a solid wooden block. If you plan on surviving the blood moon nights of 7 Days To Die, then you'll need to build your base out of sturdy materials.

Keep in mind that the game uses a structural integrity system. Make sure your base has proper support pillars that are connected to the ground to keep it from buckling under its own weight.
