7 Days to Die is a zombie survival game with some cool tower defense-style gameplay, challenging combat, and great procedurally generated open-world maps. The game spent over a decade in early access, leading to constant refinement and a well-rounded game when version 1.0 was finally released. The game has a very healthy modding community, with some incredible mods available.

7 Days To Die: 7 Best Custom Maps

7 Days To Die has an active modding community, including a number of creative players who design excellent custom maps to explore.

One such mod is War Of The Walkers by the modder Dwallorde. This is almost a complete transformation mod, expanding the vanilla gameplay in many ways, adding additional items, and extending the crafting system. It also introduces some tough new enemies and a range of additional NPCs as well. This is a huge mod, and it is impossible to cover all of the features in one list. However, here are some of the best new additions and changes to the vanilla game.

9 Additional POI

Great New Hand-Crafted POI

War Of The Walkers New POI
  • Many new POI
  • Some are inhabited by new NPCs

The War Of The Walkers Mod is a pretty big download, several gigabytes, and it is the new POIs that have been added that make up a chunk of this file size. These are incredible new POI, many coming complete with active base defenses such as turrets.

Surviving a Blood Moon in 7 Days To Die means building a base with strong defenses, and using the right defenses is critical.

Some of the POIs that are added by this mod are used for further changes, such as the new and remodeled traders. Others are inhabited by one of the new NPC factions. A lot of effort has obviously been put into designing these great new POIs.

8 Expanded Farming And Fishing

Adding To The Survival Gameplay

War Of The Walkers Farming And Fishing
  • Fishing added
  • Farming enhanced

War Of The Walkers adds fishing gameplay to 7 Days to Die. OK, this is pretty simplistic in function, but it does work. The player needs to craft or find a fishing pole and bait, and then go fishing in a suitable body of water.

Keeping with the food theme, the mod also extends the farming gameplay, adding many new crops such as apples, melons, carrots, and onions, for example. These new crops, in turn, feed into the new food recipes that are discussed later in this list.

7 Additional Ores And Recipes

New Ores To Craft New Items

War Of The Walkers New Ores
  • Three now ore types
  • Used for crafting new items

The War Of The Walkers mod adds quite a few new items and pieces of equipment to 7 Days to Die. Many of these new items rely on the new ores that have been added to the vanilla game by the mod.

Three new ores have been added, and these are tungsten, copper, and zinc. The new workbenches discussed later in this list use these new ores in various ways, as part of the enhanced crafting system the mod includes. All of these ores can be mined using the usual set of tools.

6 Reworked HUD

A Much More Refined UI

War Of The Walkers New HUD
  • More detailed HUD
  • Additional quickslots

The vanilla HUD in 7 Days to Die is pretty basic, to say the least. The War Of The Walkers mod makes quite a few changes to the UI as standard. Although it does seem that these changes were enabled by a couple of other mods that are used as part of War Of The Walkers.

The modpack includes the SMX HUD, SMX Menu, and SMX UI modlets that have been used to make some sensible changes to the default user interface and give a new look to the game.

5 More Food And Healing Items

Advanced Buffs And Healing

War Of The Walkers New Healing Items
  • Food with better buffs
  • Advanced healing items

The combat, especially in later game stages when playing the War Of The Walkers mod, can be pretty challenging at times. And this means that the vanilla buffs from food and the standard healing items, such as first aid bandages and kits, just don’t cut the mustard.

Luckily, the mod includes many new food items that are better than vanilla offerings, with many of them using the two new types of meat, white meat and red meat. Furthermore, upgraded versions of the first aid bandage and medkit are added as well.

4 New Workbenches

Needed To Craft The New Items

War Of The Walkers New Workbenches
  • Many new crafting stations
  • Crafting stations now have specific uses

The War Of The Walker mod adds a profusion of new workbenches and crafting stations to the game, each of which has a specific function. For example, there is a special forge for crafting bullet tips and bullet casings, and a microwave oven that is used to warm up soup.

7 Days To Die: 6 Best Map Seeds

Even though the map generator in 7 Days to Die is good at creating balanced maps, it is possible to find map seeds offering new and different benefits

One interesting new crafting station is the screamer block. This can be activated to attract more screamers, which will bring a small horde of enemies with them, which can then be farmed for experience points by killing them.

3 Trader Changes

Class Traders And New Traders

War Of The Walkers Trader Changes
  • Vanilla traders tweaked
  • New traders and class stores added

The normal locations where the vanilla traders are added to procedurally generated maps have been changed in this mod. There are also two entirely new types of traders added. One of these new traders specializes in skill books and magazines, and the others specialize in buying and selling raw resources.

Furthermore, class stores have been added, which have vending machines that are stocked with items that are of interest to specific classes. Overall, this is a significant change and one of the more tricky features of the mod that players will need to understand.

2 More Weapons And Equipment

Including Guns And Armor

War Of The Walkers New Weapons
  • New ranged and melee weapons, as well as tools
  • Three additional armor sets

With all of the changes and additions already covered, it probably comes as no surprise that many of these changes are in place to facilitate the crafting of a whole host of new items and equipment.

New kevlar, tungsten, and silver armor have been added, as well as special clothing to deal with hot and cold biomes. There are many new weapons, including both ranged and melee weapons, which use the new workbenches and new ores to craft them. Ranged weapons also have some new ammo options, some of which are specific to the new weapons the mod adds.

1 New Enemies And NPCs

More Zombies, As Well As NPC Factions And Followers

War Of The Walkers New Enemies
  • Dangerous new zombies
  • Banits, survivors, and follower NPCs added

Saving the best for last, the War Of The Walkers mod doesn’t just add new enemies to 7 Days to Die, it also brings in NPC factions as well as followers that the player can hire to work for them. All zombie hordes now include the new enemies included with the mod.

Bandit NPCs are aggressive to the player, as well as zombies and survivors, basically a brand new threat to deal with. Survivors are not aggressive to the player until attacked, and some can be hired as followers. Followers include humanoid helpers and also animals such as dogs, which can help the player in combat.
