Summary
- Summer intern job in Abiotic Factor allows players to start with more positive traits, making it a great choice.
- Negative traits can provide new challenges, but not always worth it. Consider taking Lead Belly to drink contaminated water safely.
- Inconspicuous trait is ideal for stealthy players, Buff Brainiac for increased carrying capacity, and Thick-Skinned for less bleeding injuries.
Traits come in two forms when players are creating their characters in Abiotic Factor. Players will want to take some time to read through all the positive and negative traits. The more Starting Points a player has, the more positive traits a player can start with, making the summer intern a great choice for players who want a lot of them.

How to unlock the Energy Brick crafting recipe and open the cafeteria door in Abiotic Factor's opening mission.
Negative traits can be pretty beastly and are often not worth taking. However, players that do take negative traits can find themselves with a new kind of challenge for the game and some additional room to take another positive trait they have enough points for. Some traits will be better for combat, and some will be better back at base.
7 Lead Belly
Trait Cost: 8
- Drink tainted water without risk.
- Drink irradiated water without risk.
Hydration is important, and this is a great trait to take for beginners to the game. This will make the game far less daunting and, thus, far more enjoyable for a lot of players not planning to get too far on their first go.
At cost 8, there are some jobs that cannot pick this trait up without first taking a negative trait. However, this is definitely something for new players to consider trying as one of their first character’s traits.
It is not worth taking a negative trait to pick this up. It is highly recommended players take a job that can use this trait without such a sacrifice.
6 Inconspicuous
Trait Cost: 4
- Attract enemy attention twice as slowly
- +2 to Sneaking Skill
This skill will make players more stealthy. Players can find plenty of jobs that will give them a boost to their Sneaking skill. Throw this on top, and players will gain an additional +2 to that value.
Is There Crossplay in Abiotic Factor 1.0?
Abiotic Factor is a co-op survival crafting game, and players may be wondering if crossplay is available. Keep reading to find out.
This is a must-take for players that want to go all in on a stealthy playstyle for the game. At cost 4, any job can pick this trait up without the need to take a negative trait.
5 Buff Brainiac
Trait Cost: 4
- Carry 15% more weight than other players.
- +1 Strength
Strength might not be placed on the best skills list, but it is still a good skill for players that like to have a lot with them at any given time. This is because it determines carrying capacity. A lot of players will enjoy having just enough in them to not become encumbered.
Coupled with a cost of only 4 Starting Points, this is a very affordable trait to throw into a character’s mix. Most jobs will be able to take this trait as well as another one, or even two.
4 Thick-Skinned
Trait Cost: 3
- 50% less chance of receiving bleeding injuries.
- Great for melee players.
The lower the chances of receiving bleeding injuries, the more players can dive headfirst into combat. This skill will be more desirable for melee players, as they will see this status effect more often.
Players will also find themselves getting into melee scrapes whether they want to or not. At only 3 Starting Points, this is a very economical investment and a must-have for any player serving as a frontliner.
3 Self-Defense
Trait Cost: 5
- +3 to all melee weapons.
- Great for both melee and ranged players.
At first glance, players may think this is only for melee players. That is not the case. As mentioned above, players will find themselves in a melee range of enemies at some point, so having melee options is always a good thing.
Abiotic Factor: How to Get a Gun
Acquiring a gun in Abiotic Factor will offer you an extra layer of protection from any threats as you aim to explore, survive, and build up your base.
A ranged player picking this up will allow them to use any melee weapon to put up a good fight, and this can finish off enemies they have had their health already whittled down from range. In fact, this might be more valuable to ranged players early on than melee players in the late game.
2 Fanny pack
Trait Cost: 10
- The most expensive trait.
- Great quality of life improvement.
The Fanny Pack is the best quality of life trait in the game. Players will have 2 additional slots in their hot bar. This can not only give players more slots for when they need them, but it also means more space overall.
Many players see this as one of the best traits, as it has high value and use in both the early parts of the game and the late parts. At 10 points, only 2 jobs can pick this up, locking 7 jobs out unless they pick up a negative trait to go along with it.
1 Wrinkly Brainmeat
Trait Cost: 4
- Players gain a 20% increase to XP.
- Incredibly cheap for what it gives.
Having a flat +20% XP gain for all skills in the game is not just major; it is undeniably the best talent players can take. If a player is a melee-focused frontliner, this boosts their Melee, Fortitude, and First Aid XP yields to be the best tank they can be. Everything a player does, from Cooking and Constructing to Sprinting and Sneaking will all benefit from this wonder talent. At only 4 points, this is ridiculously cheap for what it gives players.
To put things into perspective, 20% is a free level up for every 5 levels.
