The Claws of Awaji DLC for Assassin's Creed Shadows continues the story of Naoe and Yasuke after the base game's ending, and players can explore a brand-new island with new quests and activities in this expansion. Before you can start the DLC, however, you'll have to take care of some prerequisites in the Assassin's Creed Shadows base game.
Claws of Awaji is a postgame DLC, so it's only accessible if you've completely finished the main storyline in Assassin's Creed Shadows. There are also some personal quests for members of the League that must be completed in order to start Claws of Awaji, and even then, there are some new features added alongside the expansion that affect the base game's map as well. Here's how you can get started with Claws of Awaji in Assassin's Creed Shadows.
How Assassin's Creed Shadows Sets Up the Claws of Awaji DLC
Assassin's Creed Shadows' upcoming major expansion, Claws of Awaji, is more organically set up to carry on from the events of the base plot.
How to Start Claws of Awaji in AC Shadows
To start the Claws of Awaji expansion in Assassin's Creed Shadows, head to the Hideout and speak to Konatsu. She's in the service of Hattori Hanzo, and she'll give you the first Claws of Awaji quest.
Before Konatsu will appear in the Hideout, you have to completely finish the main story of Assassin's Creed Shadows. The final quest is called "Out of the Shadows." It becomes available after you've fully wrapped the personal quests for Naoe, Yasuke, and Junjiro. That means eliminating every single Shinbakufu and Templar member on the target board, too.
Some players are having trouble accessing Claws of Awaji even if they own it. If you can't find Konatsu at the Hideout, double check that you've completed everything in the base game through "Out of the Shadows." Verifying the integrity of your game files on PC or checking the PS/Xbox store to download the DLC can fix the issue as well.
Once you've fulfilled all the requirements, just fast travel to the Hideout, and Konatsu will be waiting for you. You'll end up on the island of Awaji shortly after, where you can find new quests, equipment, and collectibles. Awaji is also where you'll find Bo staffs, the new weapon archetype added in this expansion. They can also be found on the mainland in base game areas, too!
Claws of Awaji adds roughly 10 hours of new story content to Assassin's Creed Shadows, so there's a lot to see on the new island. Plus, there have been a bunch of free updates to the base game if you haven't played since launch, including a Critical Role crossover storyline.
