Hardware manufacturer Acer has revealed the fastest consumer-grade gaming monitor to date, sporting a 600Hz refresh rate. The brand-new Acer Nitro XV240 F6 will dethrone the current fastest gaming monitor, the Asus ROG Swift PG248QP, which has a 540Hz refresh rate.
The importance of a high refresh rate monitor for competitive gaming and esports cannot be overstated. Not only do faster refresh rates allow for smoother and more fluid gameplay, but also ultra-low input latency, which is essential for split-second reactions and movements in competitive scenarios. However, higher refresh rates do come at the cost of image quality, as only TN panels support them at the moment. OLED, IPS, and Mini-LED display technologies have yet to catch up with these stratospheric refresh rates en masse.
Is 1080p Still Good Enough for Gaming Monitors and TVs?
With the availability of other resolutions capable of delivering superior graphics, is 1080p still preferable for gaming in 2024?
Interestingly, LG did reveal a 480Hz OLED gaming monitor earlier this year, but as far as refresh rates go, the newly-announced Acer Nitro XV240 F6 unquestionably trounces its competition. The 24.1-inch TN display on the Nitro XV240 F6 offers an astonishing 600Hz refresh rate at a 1920x1080 resolution. As mentioned previously, image quality does take a hit with TN panels, but Acer guarantees 99% sRGB and 95% DCI-P3 coverage on the Nitro XV240 F6, as well as 400 nits of peak SDR brightness and support for DisplayHDR 400, which all sounds promising.
Acer Nitro XV240 F6 Gaming Monitor Key Features
- 24.1-inch TN display
- 1920X1080 resolution with 600Hz refresh rate
- 99% sRGB and 95% DCI-P3 coverage
- 400 nits peak brightness in SDR and support for DisplayHDR 400
- AMD FreeSync Premium
- DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 (up to 240 Hz)
- Releases in Q1 2025 at $599 / €899
The Acer Nitro XV240 F6 will also offer variable refresh rate support in the form of AMD FreeSync Premium. In terms of inputs, DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 formats are supported. It's worth noting that HDMI 2.0 only supports refresh rates of up to 240Hz, whereas the current HDMI 2.1 format accepts much higher refresh rates. Acer may have gone with the older HDMI standard to keep the Nitro XV240 F6's price at a reasonable level. Speaking of which, the Acer Nitro XV240 F6 is set to go on sale in Q1 2025 at $599 USD.
With its top-of-the-line features and refresh-rate-matching price, it remains to be seen how gamers will react to the Acer Nitro XV240 F6 when it launches early next year. The company has been making headlines for its gaming hardware lately, as Acer also announced its Steam Deck competitor a few days ago.
