Fans want to know who will play Wonder Woman in James Gunn's DCU. The franchise, which began in Earnest with the release of Creature Commandos and will fly into theaters with Superman, is still in its earliest stages. There haven't even been any serious updates on the DCU Batman yet. Still, the speculation around Wonder Woman seems to be growing by the day.
Obviously, there are a lot of great choices to take up the mantle of Wonder Woman, and fans have been vocal about who their top picks are. However, one actor seems to be resonating more than others: Adria Arjona. A new piece of fan art imagines what Arjona would look like suited up in Wonder Woman's signature costume, and it's easy to see why she is such a fan favorite.
‘I’ll Play Wonder Woman’ Moon Knight Star Says When Asked If Interested For The Role
One Moon Knight actress is willing to be the next Wonder Woman if given the opportunity to do so.
The fan art, posted to Instagram by 70.6six, shows Adria Arjona as Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, in a battle-ready pose with her signature Lasso of Truth in hand. The look of the suit blends design sensibilities from Wonder Woman's comic book appearances and the suit that was worn by the version of the character in the now-defunct DCEU. The skirt's shape is similar to what was seen on-screen, but it is adorned with white stars, much like what is seen on the comic book page. The red star on her headband is also much more prominent than it was in the movies, and the flowing, dark leather accents on the skirt add a nice, grounded touch to the costume. Arjona's face carries a look of focused intensity, something the actor has displayed in her many roles.
Adria Arjona as Wonder Woman would make perfect sense, given her track record of impressive and varied performances in a number of eclectic projects. Her most prominent role by far is Bix Caleen from Andor. In the Star Wars series, Arjona demonstrated that she could be a legitimate action star with a wide range of emotions blended with moral ambiguity. Another one of Arjona's previous television roles, as Dorothy Gale in the short-lived Emerald City (not to be confused with the steampunk miniseries Tin Man), proves that the actor is capable of grounding her character in an imagined world. That would be a great strength in showing Diana's past on the island of Themyscira before she has to enter the human realm. James Gunn even supports casting Adria Arjona as Wonder Woman which is definitely an important endorsement.
Gal Gadot famously brought Wonder Woman to the big screen in the DCEU, first appearing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, before starring in two solo films, Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984. The former was a huge hit for Warner Bros., while the latter struggled to resonate with audiences and critics. Gadot's Wonder Woman would also appear in Justice League (both the theatrical version and Zack Snyder's long-awaited director's cut), The Flash, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. With James Gunn confirming a Wonder Woman script is in the works, fans can only wait in anticipation to see if the fan-casting of Adria Arjona will become a reality.
