The announcement of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp as a remake of Nintendo's classic strategy franchise came as a surprise following its June 2021 reveal. The series had not seen a new release since Advance Wars: Days of Ruin launched on the DS in 2008. With Shantae developer WayForward heading up the project, the series' triumphant return was originally slated to release in December of last year before being hit with multiple delays. Now, it looks like fans may end up waiting even longer than anticipated. The Advance Wars remake has been no stranger to setbacks and delays throughout its development cycle. Following the original delay from its December window, the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia would once again move the game's launch further out. Now, with Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp's current release date only a few weeks away, a recent rumor suggests Advance Wars' arrival may have been pushed into next year.RELATED: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Gets Lengthy Delay The rumor, based on a tweet by Twitter user EnterZalman, suggests that Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp's release date has potentially been pushed back to February of next year. According to European retailer CoolShop, Re-Boot Camp's release date now appears to be set for February 24, 2023, pushing the game over a year after its originally scheduled release window. No official statement has been made yet by Nintendo or WayForward about a potential new delay for Re-Boot Camp.

While Re-Boot Camp's multiple delays have certainly hindered fan excitement, WayForward has continued to keep fans updated about the upcoming strategy game. A new trailer released in February, shortly before the game's most recent delay, showed off several new features like fast-forwarding and turn resets. Nintendo also confirmed the return of fan-favorite game modes from the original games including multiplayer and the map editor. Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp will also be the first game in the franchise to feature voice-acting.

Advance Wars being delayed into 2023 would push the game out of a holiday season that will see plenty of heavy-hitting franchises releasing new games on Switch. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are set to release just weeks before Advance Wars' current official December launch date and the long-awaited Switch port of Persona 5 Royal is set to arrive in October. Nintendo is also rumored to be working on a Metroid Prime remaster set to release this holiday season. With Advance Wars looking to be pushed back into 2023, fans will have to hope Re-Boot Camp's newest delay will be its last.
