Summary

  • AEW's Fight Forever seems likely to end season passes after Jay White DLC.
  • Fight Forever's DLC bundle suggests it won't add further DLC for logistical reasons.
  • Lack of momentum could lead AEW to cease season pass updates for Fight Forever.

The ambitious AEW Fight Forever may witness a major change with the season passes potentially ending after the recent Jay White DLC. Tony Khan launching AEW as the second major wrestling brand behind WWE changed the wrestling industry. AEW is the first time a relevant second promotion has existed at its level since WCW in 2001.

Video games are a major form of secondary content for the wrestling world. WCW released a plethora of games during its run, and WWE has plenty of its own games. Unfortunately, AEW Fight Forever is not a major success and was initially met with mixed results. The lack of momentum and some recent hints may see AEW ending season passes for Fight Forever.

What AEW Fight Forever Wanted From DLC Content

Season passes have become a major part of the video game industry, especially competitive video games. Non-sports franchises like Fortnite and Fall Guys have perfected it with cosmetics and other fun rewards, adding to the overall experience. AEW tried to follow the sports model that WWE and other sports leagues have utilized with new downloadable content coming through various periods of relevant updates.

Fight Forever attempted to utilize season passes to keep the game fresh, with new talents joining the company and getting added to the game. Each season pass featured a handful of new wrestlers along with new venues, mini-games, and other secondary cosmetic aspects of the game. Wrestlers like Claudio Castagnoli, The Acclaimed, Keith Lee, and Toni Storm have been the selling points of each pack.

However, the most recent season four pass with Jay White as the latest name may spell the end of such a project. AEW added some big-name talents in the fourth season with White, Samoa Joe, and Adam “Edge” Copeland likely being the swan song. Users of the game hoping for more names currently on the roster and other features getting added in a fifth season may be in for a strong disappointment.

Why DLC & Season Passes May Be Ending For AEW Fight Forever

Lack Of Momentum For AEW Fight Forever's DLC May Cause Top Stars To Never Join Roster

The recent news of Jay White joining season four of AEW Fight Forever featured more big news coming with it. AEW offered all season passes and all content associated with the first four seasons in one bundle for customers to get everything possible in the game. A move like this typically suggests the developer won't add more content, so Yuke's may not keep introducing new AEW Fight Forever season passes every few months.

The marketing of the bundle makes it feel like fans will be able to get everything due to no more passes coming out. AEW offering the full library of DLC now would make it confusing to release more packs without continuing to update the bundle. It remains extremely unlikely the season pass consistency will continue, as the bundle could have easily waited on another slate of big stars.

AEW signed major free agents Mercedes Mone (aka Sasha Banks from WWE), Will Ospreay, and Kazuchika Okada all this year. Even other newer talents like Hologram, Kamile, and Deonna Purrazzo could improve the roster by having more featured wrestlers on the roster.

Multiple risks, like putting extra effort into the creative Stadium Stampede battle royal Fortnite-style mode or coming up with mini-games, didn’t pay off nearly enough for the game to become a success. AEW has also lost quite a few top names on the video game roster, like CM Punk and Cody Rhodes to create some negative momentum. Wrestling fans may have to accept that the last season’s pass and new bundle pack offer may have ended all DLC for AEW Fight Forever.
