The hit strategy game Age Of Mythology Retold has been thrilling fans of the original as well as new players. While many players will have started their learning (or relearning) of the game’s civilizations with the campaign, which highlights the Greek Gods first, the Atlantean civilization is to be greatly feared.

The new Age of Mythology Retold edition game has a huge number of units that can be trained for battle, these are some of the best Greek ones.

Originally introduced in the DLC for the first Age Of Mythology, the Atlantean civilization doesn’t appear in the first campaign, they follow titans instead of regular Gods, and they have some aggressive differences that can be turned into advantages if savvy players learn which units they should be focusing on both early and late-game of this new, wonderful blast from the past for strategy fans.

8 Citizens

A Massive Advantage

Age Of Mythology Retold Atlantean Citizen
  • Can Be Trained Via Town Center
  • Costs 85 Food, 15 Wood

Although every civilization has some form of villager or laborer, the Atlanteans have the devastating cream of the crop in their citizens for several reasons. With more health and speed than regular villagers, Citizens gather resources by themselves without the need for any extra drop site, or an ox caravan like the Norse have. This makes them better and far more independent than the laborers of any other civilization in the game. Getting to start with citizens at the beginning of any game gives Atlantean players a vast advantage in resource gathering.

Additionally, for even more speed, Atlantean citizens can be upgraded to heroes. This gives them more of a fighting chance against enemies, particularly myth units, and allows them even more speed at gathering and building, creating units that are overall a big advantage for this civilization. Citizens are not to be underestimated for their many in-built advantages.

7 Murmillo

Great Standard Infantry

Age Of Mythology Retold Murmillo
  • Can Be Trained Via Military Barracks
  • Costs 55 Food, 30 Gold

Every civilization also comes with a standard infantry unit that can be trained from the Classical Age. The Murmillo fits the bill for the Atlanteans, but he comes with several advantages. He is solid, though not amazing, against all cavalry units, and is considered strong across the board in melee combat, making him similar to the Greek Hoplite.

However, Murmillo units have several advantages over these other infantry units. Primarily in speed, where they are better than most infantry, and their ability - as many Atlantean soldiers have - of being able to be upgraded individually into heroes. This gives them the opportunity to also counter myth units, making for a devastating overall unit that, despite being cheap to train in large numbers, can pack a punch as an individual.

6 Cheiroballista

Amazing Defensive Siege

Age Of Mythology Retold Cheiroballista
  • Can Be Trained Via Counter Barracks
  • Costs 115 Wood, 100 Gold

Considered both a siege weapon and an archer, the Cheiroballista is an Atlantean unit that can really pack a punch against enemy soldiers. While most siege weapons find their strength against buildings primarily, the Cheiroballista is capable of mowing down infantry units and will be strong against individual archer units. Since it is relatively slow and weak against buildings, the Cheiroballista is mostly used as a phenomenal defensive weapon for Atlanteans.

These RTS games make use of stunning sprite artwork to bring their worlds, units, and large-scale battles to life.

Backed up by a few defensive infantry or cavalry units, or behind a wall alongside buildings capable of also defending, the Cheiroballista makes for an incredible weapon that will hugely frustrate opponents attempting to attack the player. Removing an entire line of their infantry before they can get any defensive walls down makes their attack a lot less effective.

5 Destroyer

Human Siege Units

Age Of Mythology Retold Destroyers
  • Can Be Trained Via Palace
  • Costs 70 Food, 60 Gold

There aren’t many human soldier units in any civilization that are particularly strong against buildings which is normally the area of myth units and siege weapons. However, the Destroyer unit, available from the Heroic Age, are infantry soldiers who are considered anti-building units. Instead of a group of slow-moving siege weapons, players can dive in and out, destroying enemy buildings or entire bases, with a group of faster-moving destroyers, which can also be upgraded to heroes.

The destroyer unit is especially suited for walking right into an enemy base and ignoring defensive units because of the solid hack armor and amazing pierce armor stats they bring to the table. This helps make the destroyer one of the most well-defended building-destroying units in Age Of Mythology Retold, not even taking into account how players can back them up with other units along the way.

4 Behemoth

Monstrous Battering Rams

Age Of Mythology Retold Behemoths
  • Can Be Trained Via Temples
  • Costs 300 Food, 20 Favor

Every civilization comes with powerful myth units, and it isn’t a particular advantage the Atlanteans have over others, but players can still get ahead by using the right creatures. Training under Rheia at the Heroic Age, players gain access to the Behemoth. A walking tank, the Behemoth is like a siege weapon, strong at bringing down buildings, but it comes with the advantage that it has high armor, is strong against other units (besides heroes), and has a lot of health.

Myth units are expensive for a reason, and the Behemoth is the strongest overall Atlantean option for a myth unit in the early or mid-game sections of Age Of Mythology Retold. It isn’t a stretch to say they’re the best pre-Mythic Age unit available in the entire game, which fully embraces the madness of mythology with units like these.

3 Fire Siphon

Devastating Siege Unit

Age Of Mythology Retold Fire Siphons
  • Can Be Trained Via Temples
  • Costs 275 Wood, 180 Gold

The Atlantean civilization has some interesting options for siege units, from myth units to human soldiers, but the Fire Siphon remains the most devastating. Shaped like a boxed catapult but actually a ranged weapon that shoots destructive bolts of fire over distance, the Fire Siphon is slow-moving but a necessary destructive force for bringing down large enemy bases in late-game Age of Mythology Retold scenarios.

The Fire Siphon is a great and capable piece of equipment that isn’t as weak or easy to destroy as some other siege weapons in Age Of Mythology Retold, but players will still need to back it up with a variety of other soldiers if they want the Fire Siphons to last longer than it takes to bring down a single building.

2 Fanatic

Incredible Overall Soldier

Age Of Mythology Retold Fanatics
  • Can Be Trained Via Palace
  • Costs 75 Food, 55 Gold

The strongest overall human unit in the Atlantean Civilization, maybe even the entire game, has to be the Fanatic. This infantry unit wields double swords and can be trained only in the Mythic Age, but he is a fantastic piece of late-game equipment for Atlanteans to try and bring down large enemy civilizations and armies.

This is because he begins with high attack, big bonuses against human soldiers, and in addition, there are upgrades he can receive that allow him to gain extra attack for every lost hit point. This means that even when outmatched, the Fanatic can deal big damage to enemies in return for taking him down, ruining entire armies when many of them are brought together. Not to mention that like other Atlantean units, players can upgrade Fanatics to heroes, making them even more devastating and as dangerous to myth units as they already are to all humans.

1 Centimanus

One-Man Army

Age Of Mythology Retold Centimanus
  • Can Be Trained Via Temples
  • Costs 300 Gold, 25 Favor

Maybe the most destructive myth unit in the game, the Centimanus is a many-armed warrior available when players worship Helios in the Mythic Age. He is a hugely useful late-game tool, providing literal earthquakes with his special attack which throws nearby enemies and leaves them vulnerable to attack. This makes the Centimanus devastating as part of an army.

But even alone, he is not to be underestimated. Except against heroes, he will win out most of the time against other units and is also strong against buildings. He is the complete unit, and a few of these trained together will be able to go through most enemy forces that don’t contain a plethora of heroes prepared to stop them, often a problem for the Egyptians.
