Post-launch support has become part and parcel of the AAA games industry nowadays, with many gamers expecting even the most complete games to receive at least one or two updates in the months following their release. Age of Mythology: Retold is following expectations, with its developers having already confirmed a general roadmap for the game's immediate future. This roadmap states that Age of Mythology: Retold will receive patches based on community feedback, a new game mode, and two expansions.
The first of these Age of Mythology: Retold expansions is set to arrive before the end of the year, and will apparently bring the Extended Edition's Chinese pantheon to the remake. Based on the divisive reception to the original 2016 DLC, fans are hoping developers World's Edge and Forgotten Empires will overhaul the Chinese pantheon for its reappearance. But that's only one of two confirmed Age of Mythology: Retold expansions, and the second one has no shortage of possible mythologies it could take inspiration from.

Civilizations That Should Come to Age of Mythology: Retold in DLC
Japanese
One of the most requested DLCs for Age of Mythology since the original's release all the way back in 2002, it'd be great to see the Japanese pantheon in Age of Mythology: Retold. If Retold's expansions resemble those of its original counterpart, then fans can expect to see three new Major Gods, at least nine Minor Gods, and an array of Mythic units that bring the mythology's creatures to life.
Largely based on Shinto beliefs and tales, a Japanese pantheon in Age of Mythology: Retold has a few different figures to choose from for its Major Gods. Called Kami, Japanese mythology is home to five deities that are credited with creating the universe, and the best picks for Age of Mythology: Retold would be the Divine Creator, Kamimusubi, the High Creator, Takamimusubi, and the Central Master, Amenominakanushi.
There are over 8 million gods in traditional Japanese mythology, so there's really no shortage of options for Minor Gods in a potential Age of Mythology: Retold Japanese DLC. Fujin, the god of the wind, Uzume, the goddess of dawn, Hachiman, the god of war, Ōkuninushi, the god of farming and growth, and Raijin, the god of thunder and lightning would all be great choices for Age of Mythology: Retold DLC.
The Kitsune spirit foxes, the amphibious Kappa, the demonic Oni, and the ghostly Yūrei would all be great choices for Myth units for an Age of Mythology: Retold Japanese expansion.
Aztec
Another long-requested Age of Mythology expansion is the ancient Aztec pantheon. The Aztecs are widely believed to have had four primary gods, meaning that only one would need to be excluded in an Age of Mythology: Retold DLC. The best picks for Aztec Major Gods would be Huitzilopochtli, the god of war and sun, Tlaloc, the god of rain, and Tezcatlipoca, the god of destiny and fortune.
There are plenty of other gods who would fit the bill as well, such as Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent and the god of life and intelligence, Mixcoatl, the god of the hunt and stars, and Xolotl, the god of fire, lightning, and death. The only issue with having an expansion centered around the Aztec pantheon is that Age of Mythology: Retold is a T-rated game, and to properly portray the ancient civilization it would likely need to push that rating so that it could show at least a little bit of blood and human sacrifice.
Maya
If Age of Mythology: Retold didn't want to shed the blood necessary for an authentic portrayal of the Aztec civilization, then it could look to a different Central American pantheon for its second expansion: the Maya. Some of the key gods of the Maya pantheon that Age of Mythology: Retold could use are Itzamna, the creator god, Chaac, the rain god, Kinich Ahau, the sun god, and Ek Chuaj, the god of merchants. The Mayans even worshiped a feathered serpent god of their own.
