Summary

  • Ahsoka Tano from the Disney Plus series Ahsoka will be the first TV show figure added to the Star Tours ride at Disney Parks, breaking a barrier previously held only by mainline Star Wars movies.
  • Ahsoka's inclusion in the ride suggests a potential new story arc and a connection to the upcoming "Mandoverse" crossover movie.
  • Ahsoka's popularity and role model status make her a perfect choice for the ride, and her presence offers a significant addition to the Star Wars franchise.

Ahsoka Tano may have become the first person to utilize Finding Nemo tactics as transportation to another galaxy. But it looks like she's not done making history. The popular Disney Parks ride Star Tours is about to add her to its ranks, and that's more significant than some might realize.

Anyone who has ridden Star Tours at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, or any other park around the globe, should be familiar with the ride's premise. Guests board a transport and travel through some wacky scenarios based on the Star Wars films, all thanks to the piloting of one C-3PO. However, things are about to shake up a bit. Rosario Dawson's title character from the Disney Plus series Ahsoka will now be the first TV show figure to join a prestigious group previously only inhabited by those from the mainline Star Wars movies.

During Disney's recent D23 event, the company officially announced that Ahsoka would soon join the rotating scenarios seen in Star Tours, making the Ahsoka series the first non-movie in the Star Wars universe to be added to the ride. The official Disney Parks blog reads, "Ahsoka will become part of our popular Star Tours attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, Disneyland Park in California and Disneyland Paris – beginning next spring." However, it's currently unclear whether Ahsoka will be the only new addition or the first of many.

Ahsoka talks to the Purrgil in Ahsoka

This may not have been the news many were expecting when Disney Parks announced new upcoming scenarios for Star Tours. It's a surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. Ahsoka has been an exciting new addition to the franchise since it premiered, telling a story of the title character's journey of self-discovery and her search for long-lost friends and enemies. Some may understandably wonder why The Mandalorian didn't get this particular honor, given how its popularity effectively became a cultural phenomenon for a while. It's a good question, but Ahsoka and (presumably) other characters from her show being included won't be lamented.

Ahsoka has been on a hot streak lately, even finally joining the always-hot game Fortnite. But the Star Tours news could be more than capitalizing on her popularity. All signs seem to point to Ahsoka launching a new story arc that ultimately leads to the upcoming "Mandoverse" crossover movie from Dave Filoni. Perhaps the new Ahsoka content could be the first hint of Star Tours setting up something similar.

Whatever the case, Ahsoka is the perfect choice to join the ride, especially after the character herself recently started showing up at Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland. Little girls everywhere have a new role model, and everyone else still has an awesome character to enjoy. If nothing else, that's more than enough reason for this to be a good choice.

Ahsoka releases new episodes on Tuesdays on Disney Plus, while the character will join Star Tours in the Spring of 2024.
