Alan Wake 2 has done the unthinkable by meeting and exceeding expectations at every turn. The latest installment in the Alan Wake franchise allows players to switch between its protagonists, Alan and Saga.
While playing as Alan or Saga, players must understand that each character has an independent storyline. Alan has been imprisoned in the Dark Place for over a decade, while Saga is an FBI agent trying to solve a case regarding the forest cult. Most players would assume switching characters would be a breeze, but that is not the case. Keeping this in mind, this guide will illustrate how players can switch characters in Alan Wake 2 while providing some other useful information.
Switching Characters in Alan Wake 2
Players can switch between characters in Alan Wake 2 by following these simple steps:
- Approach a Janitor’s Bucket.
- A prompt will require the player to Switch Reality.
- Press the action button, like X on a controller, to switch to the other character.
- The new character will spawn in the same place, but the Janitor’s Bucket location will differ.
The Janitor’s Bucket location spawns randomly and can be found in many break rooms.
It is worth noting, players can only switch characters in Alan Wake 2 after completing the Haunting chapter. Until the Haunting chapter is complete, the game will automatically switch between Saga and Alan. After completing the Haunting chapter, players will be prompted to visit the Janitor’s Break Room to switch to the other character.
The Janitor’s Break Rooms act as safe rooms, allowing players to manually stash their equipment and save their game’s progress. While players will not find a Janitor’s Bucket in every safe room, they are spread evenly throughout the game.
Why Switch Characters in Alan Wake 2?
Players should switch characters between chapters to not forget important information. Additionally, if players cannot solve a puzzle, they can switch characters to take a break and return to the puzzle once they feel ready.
When it comes to the differences between Alan and Saga in Alan Wake 2, they are as follows:
- Alan’s storyline has a ton of enemies, albeit weaker ones. The character’s storyline focuses on altering realities in varying set-pieces, rewriting his story to find a way out of prison.
- Saga’s storyline focuses on exploration and investigation, but there is plenty of combat to look forward to. However, Saga’s primary goal is to find clues to solve the mystery surrounding her case using her Profiling and Case Board abilities.
Alan Wake 2 is available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
