Alan Wake 2 features multiple shotguns for players to add to their arsenal, and one of the earliest ones is a sawed-off shotgun that Saga can get early in the game. Shotguns are a survival-horror staple, so it's no surprise that they are featured in Alan Wake 2, a game that fully embraces the survival-horror genre.
Alan Wake 2 is a pure horror game, in contrast to its predecessor, which was more of an action-adventure title. In becoming a horror game, Alan Wake 2 lifts ideas from modern genre favorites, particularly Capcom's Resident Evil remakes. Alan Wake 2 features an over-the-shoulder camera and combat system highly reminiscent of Capcom's games, with a weapon selection that would also fit right at home in Resident Evil.
Alan Wake 2: How to Save
Alan Wake 2 has an auto-save feature like most modern games, but players may be wondering exactly how they can manually save.
Like the Resident Evil games that inspired it, getting weapons in Alan Wake 2 usually requires players to solve puzzles. It's entirely possible for players to miss out on certain weapons in the game if they don't know where to look or how to access them. Those wondering how to get Saga's first shotgun will first want to progress to the part in the game where they have to go the General Store and grab a heart out of a freezer. The shotgun is located here, in the back room on the wall. Unfortunately, the shotgun is locked behind a case. In our game, the code to the shotgun case was 739, but it's entirely possible that the code could be randomized. If 739 doesn't work, players will want to go through the steps to figure out the code for themselves.
How to Get Sawed-Off Shotgun Code in Alan Wake 2
- Examine the notepad on the General Store counter
- Combine the first number in the combinations written on the notepad with the fifth number listed on the nearby lottery ticket
- The code in our game was 739
Head to the General Store counter and check out the notepad sitting on it. Players should see numbers scratched off, all starting with the same number, which was 7 in our case. Examine the Lotto Washington lottery ticket sitting on top of the notepad. Take that first number and combine it with the fifth lottery number to get the code. Input the code on the lock and collect Saga's sawed-off shotgun.
Saga isn't the only playable character in Alan Wake 2. Later in the game, players will get to play as the titular Alan Wake himself, though he doesn't share gear with Saga. This means they have to collect a shotgun all over again. Wake's first shotgun can't be missed, so players don't have to worry about solving any puzzles to get it. Other shotguns and weapons in the game require players to solve puzzles and find codes, but Saga's sawed-off more than gets the job done.
Alan Wake 2 is out now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
