Alan Wake 2's ultimate antagonist, the Dark Presence, finally shows itself at the end of Chapter 6 of Return. Players will have to defeat the Dark Presence, manifested as Mr. Scratch, using the equipment now available at the Sheriff's Station due to the arrival of the Federal Bureau of Control. Activate the light generators while keeping Mr. Scratch at bay to banish the Dark Presence and defeat Mr. Scratch in Alan Wake 2.

Fighting Scratch

The moment the fight begins run out the back door into the lot behind the Sheriff's Station. There are three generators in this area that players need to activate to power up the light fixtures in the area - when all three lights are activated the Dark Presence will be dispelled. Players simply need to hold the interact button while in front of the generator to activate them, but before the generators can be powered up players will need to find a way to slow down Mr. Scratch. While he will walk slowly, he can teleport short distances to close the gap on Saga, and will always jump to players and interrupt to progress of powering up a generator if he is not stunned beforehand.

Mr. Scratch can be temporarily s tunned by dealing high amounts of damage with any of the weapons in Saga's arsenal, although the flashlight charge attack seems to be mostly ineffective in this fight. Players can find the pump-action shotgun before this fight by searching the Sheriff's Station - the pump-action shotgun and the crossbow are most effective in damaging Scratch.

Players can stun Mr. Scratch in a single crossbow headshot, however, because Mr. Scratch teleports away at the end of the fight these bolts cannot be recovered. If players have three crossbow bolts available Mr. Scratch can be quickly defeated by shooting him in the head, running straight to a generator and activating it, then reloading the crossbow. Repeat this process two more times and scratch will quickly be defeated.

Generator Locations

Players will find the three generators around the Sheriff's Station back lot - look for the glowing red lights on the machines to help pinpoint their locations. The first generator will be found right beside the stairs down out of the Sheriff's Station. Players can also find a supply box just to the right of this generator.

The second generator is near the first, to the right behind the stack of crates. The last generator will be on the other side of the lot behind the dumpster and the pile of trash bags. There is also a toolbox on the ledge to the right of this generator that players can loot. Once all three generators are activated, the chapter will end, and the cutscene will begin.
