Remedy Entertainment has gained a reputation for fully embracing the bizarre and experimenting with the limits of a game's narrative potential. The Alan Wake and Control franchises are some of the most successful series from Remedy, and when it comes to the latter, many were surprised when it was revealed that it's actually connected to the former.

Control's second DLC, AWE, plants the first seed of Remedy's connected universe, kicking off a strange and compelling intertwining narrative that continues in Alan Wake 2. Not only does the sequel's story involve the Federal Bureau of Control, but its Night Springs and The Lake House expansions star FBC agents Jesse Faden and Kiran Estevez, further connecting the franchises. With Control 2 and Alan Wake 3 expected in the future, Remedy is likely gearing up to take its universe to new mind-bending heights.

FBC: Firebreak Is Missing One Key Component of the Remedy Connected Universe

FBC: Firebreak doesn't do a lot to move the Remedy Connected Universe story forward, and it's missing a key component that ties the universe together.

As Control and Alan Wake Continue to Bleed Into One Another, Remedy's Universe is Bound to Become Wilder Than Ever

  • Control 2 is currently in development.
  • Alan Wake 3 has yet to be announced.

Although a third Alan Wake game hasn't been made official yet, the end of the second left the door wide open for another chapter. Of course, considering the connected universe, it's actually quite possible that Alan Wake 2's story will continue into Control 2. This is where Remedy's connected universe gets particularly mind-boggling. Since the developer is blurring the lines between both worlds so much, Alan Wake and Control are quickly becoming one continuous narrative instead of two separate series.

It's now at a point where both franchises need to be experienced in order to fully understand the other, and it's a fascinating way to approach such a universe, especially since the gameplay mechanics are incredibly different. Even Control 2 is switching up its own genre. Instead of being labeled as an action-adventure game like the first entry, Control 2 is being referred to as an action RPG this time around.

Control and Alan Wake Continue to Be Mirror Images

When the first Alan Wake arrived, it seemed more likely that it was destined to be a wonderfully strange one-off action-adventure mystery. Little did gamers know that it would be fertile soil for an entire paranormal universe to grow. The Remedy universe feels like what would happen if David Lynch was in charge of directing The X Files, and there's no telling how much weirder the developer is planning on making its unique world.

With a special blend of sinister darkness and unexpected humor, the Remedy universe continues to have fun with its twisted subject matter in a way that makes it a standout series of games. Control 2 is set to bring forth the next chapter, and there's no telling what tricks Remedy has up its sleeve next.

Control 2 officially entered full production in February 2025, so there still may be a while before the game is ready.

Remedy is Currently Expanding its Universe With its First Multiplayer Title

  • FBC: Firebreak launched on June 17.
  • The game is a three-player spin-off of Control.

FBC: Firebreak may be receiving more mixed reception than Control and Alan Wake, but it's also likely laying the groundwork for Control 2. Based on messages that can be found throughout the Oldest House, Jesse Faden's work as Director of the FBC is not being received well by some of the organization's agents. As the threat of the Hiss still continues, it remains to be seen how she, Alan, Estevez, or any other future characters that have yet to be revealed will be able to defeat the darkness that lies at the heart of the universe's story.

As FBC: Firebreak adds post-launch content, it's likely that there will be further clues about Control 2's story leading up to the game's launch.
