There are many secrets to be found in Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, and apart from useful upgrades and other collectibles, players can also find Ankou Rifts, special parkour arenas that reward skillful maneuvering with pieces of the Dark Katana weapon.
Collecting all Dark Katana fragments will eventually reforge the blade, letting players use that instead of Joe's signature Oborozuki sword. However, finding all Ankou Rifts in Shinobi: Art of Vengeance requires a bit of work, and actually completing the obstacle courses within them takes even more effort. This guide covers the locations of all 10 Ankou Rifts in the missions that have them.
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance Dev Details What You Can Do After Beating the Game
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance developer Lizardcube chats with The Best War Games about what action-packed experience has to offer at the end of its campaign.
Before you start actively looking for any Ankou Rifts, we recommend getting all the Ningi tools in Shinobi: Art of Vengeance first. Some Ankou Rifts are easy to reach, but others (especially the ones in earlier missions) require you to have all traversal tools.
Oboro Village Ankou Rift Location
To reach the Oboro Village Ankou Rift, you'll need to use Sword Dive to reach a hidden area in the large room containing the Attic shrine. Drop down to the big area with the burning floor, then look for a Yokai Barrier at the bottom. Smash through it to find the rift.
The Mountain Ankou Rift Location
The rift in the Mountain involves a long trek upward starting from the Waterfalls shrine. Once you open the entrance leading to the facility itself, head up and climb a wall on the right using Ninja Claws, then keep following the straightforward path upward. You'll eventually find yourself in an entirely different secret area. The Ankou Rift is at the very top — once you see the downward slopes that lead back down, jump into the air and use the Ninja Hook to climb further up.
Lantern Festival Ankou Rift Location
You can find the Ankou Rift in the Lantern Festival by going to a secret in between the Buildings and Fireworks shrines. This one is much easier to reach compared to the one in the Mountain level, so you should have no trouble getting to it as long as you have the required Ningi to reach it.
Neo City Ankou Rift Location
The Neo City Ankou Rift is found all the way to the left side of the map. Teleport to the end of the West District (the shrine under the big SEGA billboard), then keep heading left. You'll find a path there that leads to a secret area containing a few secrets and the level's Ankou Rift at the very top.
Fish Market Ankou Rift Location
The rift in the Fish Market level is right before the Containers shrine. From the shrine, go back to the previous area, then make your way up to the top-right corner of the room. This leads to yet another hidden area filled with secrets. Follow the obstacle course upward, and you find the hanging containers that let you slide back down, jump off the last one. To the right is the Ankou Rift.
Submarine Base Ankou Rift Location
The Submarine Base rift is near the Floor B3 shrine. You'll likely need to make significant progress through the level in order to reach it, so if you haven't done this mission yet, focus on doing that first. The rift is at the end of a fairly tricky obstacle course.
The Desert Ankou Rift Location
The Desert is one of the longest missions in Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, and the Ankou Rift here is found near the one. Teleport to the Astral Ruins shrine, jump off the left side, then glide toward a corridor that leads to the Astral Labyrinth hidden zone. Here, you need to use the Glider to navigate a maze. Find the crystals inside and hit them to disperse the energy walls blocking your way. The Ankou Rift is at the square-shaped room at the bottom-middle part of the maze.
Mad Train Ankou Rift Location
The Mad Train rift is the easiest one to reach out of all of them. To reach it, simply fast travel to the Convoy shrine, then go to your left. It's in a small room just past the gap.
ENE Corp Ankou Rift Location
As of writing, we are yet to find the ENE Corp Laboratory Ankou Rift. However, after thoroughly exploring the area and finding every other secret in it, the Ankou Rift is likely to be in the chamber under the Containment Room shrine. There's a terminal there that players won't be able to interact with until they get all 6 Laboratory Keys from the other levels.
The Kaiju Ankou Rift Location
The Kaiju Ankou Rift is the last one that players will likely get to find, and it's fairly easy to reach. Simply play through the level until you get to the Second Stomach shrine. From there, clear the fleshy mass blocking the large gap to the left of the shrine, then glide down to the left-most side to find the rift. Be careful not to touch any of the spikes on the ceiling and walls.
