There are plenty of ways to play Battlefield 6, and we're not just talking about classes and weapons. Just like the previous games in the series, there are a multitude of game modes for players to experience, and that doesn't even include all the potential modes fans can make using Portal's editing tools.

There's a game mode for every type of player in Battlefield 6. Whether you're a fan of infantry-only gameplay, or if you want to experience the all-out warfare that the series is known for, you have several options to choose from.

All-Out Warfare Game Modes in Battlefield 6

Conquest in BF6 Liberation Peak map

Mode

Description

Conquest

The classic Battlefield experience. Work with your team to capture zones and deplete the enemy's reinforcements. The first team to reach zero respawn tickets loses the match.

Escalation

An offshoot of Conquest mode introduced in Battlefield 6. Teams are tasked with capturing and holding more zones than the enemy, but here, the playable area of the map shrinks the longer the match goes on. The team with the most points wins.

Breakthrough

Face the enemy head-on in this Attack/Defend game mode. Attackers must capture map sectors one by one as Defenders scramble to maintain control of their territory. The attacking team has a limited number of respawns, and the outcome of the match is decided by whether they can control the entire map or not.

Rush

An Attack/Defend-style mode for up to 24 players where teams fight to destroy objectives. Attackers must plant a timed explosive on MCOMs, while Defenders must rush to protect them. Bombs can be defused, leading to frantic tugs of war between the two teams.

What is Escalation Mode in Battlefield 6?

As mentioned above, Escalation is a slightly more complex version of Conquest. Teams will still be fighting each other over control points, but here, the match is broken down into phases. Here's a breakdown of what an average Escalation match plays out:

  1. Teams fight over who gets majority control of the map, and the one who controls more zones will steadily build up a team-wide progress meter.
  2. When the progress meter reaches 100%, the team scores a point.
  3. When a team scores a point, a capture zone under their control becomes permanently locked for the rest of the match, causing the map to shrink.
  4. The first team that scores three points wins.

As the map shrinks, frontlines and playable spaces will shift, and more vehicles become available for players to use. This causes the chaos to ramp up gradually while forcing players to adjust their strategies.

All Small Scale Game Modes in Battlefield 6

BF6 Empire State KotH

Mode

Description

Domination

Small-scale Conquest set in smaller sections of maps with fewer objectives. Teams must capture zones and reach the goal limit before their enemy does.

Team Deathmatch

Classic slugfest. May the best team win.

King of the Hill

Teams must fight over a single capture zone that changes position throughout the match. First team to reach the score limit wins.

Squad Deathmatch

A smaller and more intimate version of Team Deathmatch that pits four squads of players against each other. The first squad to reach the kill limit wins.

Small scale modes focus heavily on infantry combat and feature little or no vehicle support. They usually have half (or fewer) of the usual 64-player match count, and these modes are typically set in smaller sections of the usual BF6 maps. Modes like these are great if you're trying to farm weapon challenges in BF6.

Limited Time/Party Game Modes

This section is a work-in-progress that only includes modes that were available as of BF6's launch. We'll be adding more to it as the game evolves.

These are special, official game modes that don't fall under the traditional All-Out Warfare and CQB categories. They often go live during weekend, or as themed season-specific modes. Here are all the limited modes we know so far:
