Vault hunting has always been the main premise of the Borderlands series, but in Borderlands 4, players will get the opportunity to open more than just one of them. There are four Vaults on Kairos, and apart from the one guarded by the Timekeeper, the other three are completely optional.
Just like in previous Borderlands games, players will need to find three Vault Key Fragments in order to open a Vault door. There are three of these fragments hidden in each of Borderlands 4's main regions, and if you're having trouble finding any of them, here's a guide to help you out.
Borderlands 4 is Giving an Overlooked BL3 Feature a Second Wind
One Vault Hunter's skill tree is transforming an overlooked feature from Borderlands 3 into a devastating force in Borderlands 4.

All Fadefields Vault Key Fragments in Borderlands 4
The Fadefields is the first region players get to explore in Borderlands 4, and while you need to make significant main story progress in this area to unlock the other regions, you can explore the Fadefields freely as soon as you enter it. Also, you don't need to be completely OP in order to kill Vault monsters. You just need to bring enough firepower.
The Stockroom Silo and Vault Key
The first Silo that players will find is likely The Stockroom, which is a little ways northeast of the Abandoned Post Safehouse. The path to the terminal is just passed the Order outpost in the Silo's vicinity.
The Vault Key Fragment tied to The Stockroom is all the way to the southwest. There's a small shanty town along the beach there, and the Vault Key is on a crate behind one of the houses.
The Kit Hole Silo and Vault Key
The Kit Hole is due northwest of The Launchpad, and you can reach its terminal by going past the small Ripper camp just below the command tower.
This Silo's Vault Key is found in a cave just east of The Kit Hole. Look for the big rock near the farms and hug its edges until you find the cave opening past the Mangler den.
Deep Seven Silo and Vault Key
Deep Seven is found in the eastern side of the Fadefields, near the border leading to Terminus Range. To get to this Silo's control tower, you need to climb up the cliff near the main road. Follow the map in the image above.
As for the Vault Key, it's found in a Ripper camp southwest of Deep Seven. Fight off the enemies there, then look for a sewer grate that you can pull with your grappling hook. Head inside and grab the key from one of the bodies.
Fadefields Vault Location
The Fadefields Vault in Borderlands 4 is found on a hilltop just east of the previous Vault Key Fragment's location, near Zaldra's Backup Plan. Fight your way past the remains of a wrecked ship, then approach the Vault door to activate it. Insert the key fragments into the receptacle that appears, and the door will open.
As one would expected, every Vault in Borderlands 4 contains a boss enemy, among other things.
Borderlands 4: All Carcadia Burn Vault Key Fragments
Carcadia Burn is Borderlands 4's desert biome, and it also houses a few notable characters from the previous games. Much like in the Fadefields, the Silos and Vault Key Fragments here are scattered all over the place, though they're a bit easier to reach compared to the previous ones.
Rustical Hurl Silo and Vault Key
The Rustical Hurl Silo is in a basin at the southeast side of Carcadia Burn. There's a service tunnel near the base of the control tower that leads to its entrance. Fight off the Creeps, then make your way to the terminal to access the Silo.
The related Vault Key Fragment for this is found just south of the Makeshift Chalet Safehouse. Drive down the main road until you find a Ripper garage. Go to the roof, and the Vault Key will be on the long table.
Site Unseen Silo and Vault Key
This Silo's control tower entrance is at the end of a Ripper camp on the map above, and as for its Vault Key, you can find it in the Wreck of the Last Great Hope, which is just south of the Silo's tower. Ride your vehicle down the road, then look for one of three possible entrances leading to one of the ship's interiors. Use your grappling hook on the floor hatch inside, then drop down the hole to find the key fragment.
Judgment's Lapse Silo and Vault Key
Judgment's Lapse is found northwest of the Carcadia fast travel point, and it is at the end of a sizable Ripper base. Fight the psychos off and interact with the control terminal to find the general location of a nearby Vault Key Fragment.
The fragment is a short drive north of the Silo. Go the shore of the lake in that area, then look for some pillars and golden orbs along the wall.
Carcadia Burn Vault Location
The Carcadia Burn Vault in Borderlands 4 is found near the bridge northwest of the Rustical Hurl Silo. It's next to some scrapped cars and near the ledge.
All Terminus Range Vault Key Fragment Locations in Borderlands 4
Terminus Range is a snowy region with tall mountains and plenty of caves. The Vault Key Fragments here are fairly easy to reach, but one can be a little tricky to track.
The Reliquary Silo and Vault Fragment
There are two silos in Cuspid Climb, but the one that leads to the Vault Fragment in this location is near the border between Terminus Range and the Fadefields. The Silo in question is called The Reliquary, and to reach it, you'll need to fight your way through the nearby Ripper camp.
Activate the Silo, and it will lead you north. The fragment is inside a cave entrance along a cliff.
Covered Charge Silo and Vault Fragment
The second Cuspid Climb silo is called Covered Charge, and this one is found southwest of Belton's Bore (Terminus Range's main NPC town). To reach this Silo, head to the river, east of where the Silo map marker is, then look for a grapple point on a ledge.
Covered Charge's Vault Key Fragment is far to the north. Follow the map, then look for a twisting tree with purple leaves. Climb the rocks behind it to find the Vault Key Fragment.
Deathrite Silo and Vault Fragment
The Deathrite Silo is found northwest of where the Covered Charge Vault Key Fragment is. To enter the Silo's terminal, you need to climb up the cliff — from the Silo itself, head north and go to where the river ends. Once you spot the large cave entrance leading to a Crawler, follow the cliff wall west until you find a climbable wall.
This Silo's Vault Key Fragment is found in Checkpoint Taupe, an Order checkpoint near the Nightcap Safe House, which is due southeast of Deathrite. You can find it on a box in the control room overlooking the checkpoint tunnel. Once you enter the main hall, go up the small set of stairs and go through the doors.
Terminus Range Vault Location
The Terminus Range Vault in Borderlands 4 is found inside a cave just south of where you found Checkpoint Taupe's Vault Key. The path to the Vault door is right above a Mangler den near the main road.
