What are Alpha Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A?

How Do Alpha Pokemon Work?

Alpha Pokemon have the following characteristics:

  • They have red glowing eyes that are immediately visible from a distance.
  • They are 10-20 levels higher than Pokemon around them.
  • They have significantly higher HP compared to any other Pokemon of their level when they are fought in the wild.
  • They are highly aggressive and attack the trainer at every opportunity.
  • They know at least one move their species typically only learns using a TM.
  • They have three random perfect IVs (31) and maximum HP EVs (252).
  • They can be caught in a Poke Ball like regular Pokemon.
  • They have a red skull icon in their status window.

After Alpha Pokemon have been captured, their eyes lose the glowing red coloring, and their HP returns to normal levels.

Alpha Pokemon can be shiny in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Alpha Pokemon Locations

Alpha Pokemon start spawning in the Wild Zones and overworld locations across Lumiose City after players complete the “A Big Ol’ Bunnelby” side mission, where they have to fight and defeat an Alpha Bunnelby. Completing this quest is required for story progression, so you cannot miss it.

Once the Alpha Bunnelby is defeated, go to any Wild Zone and you will find that some natural inhabitants of that area have transformed into Alpha Pokemon. All Wild Zones have at least one or two fixed Alpha spawns, like the Staryu in Wild Zone 2. Whereas the other Pokemon in the area have a small chance of transforming into an Alpha. Additionally, there are some confirmed Alpha Pokemon in fixed locations outside the Wild Zones as well.

Guaranteed Alpha Pokemon respawn after a period of time.
