Redditor OMG_R3A11Y shared on r/newworldgame a screenshot they took on the PlayStation Store, showing a sponsored listing for a game called New World Aeternum. While this isn't the name of any official game that's been announced, Aeternum is the name of the island New World is set in and the familiar armor on the cover art is also there, making it a clear reference to the original. As such, it's also unclear whether Aeternum is a New World console port or a completely different game altogether, but it seems fans will find out soon enough.

New World Has Been Optimizing The Controller Experience

Perhaps to prepare for a possible console port, New World has also introduced controller optimization in its Season 5 update, making for a better experience for those who don't prefer the usual keyboard and mouse setup. Despite this, no one seemingly had raised the notion that the game would show up on consoles, but it makes sense in hindsight due to the growing prevalence of controller-using PC players.

Aside from New World, Amazon is trying its hand once again at another MMORPG with Throne and Liberty, one that it hopes can do better in the genre. While New World isn't a downright failure, it still ended up being underwhelming; fortunately, the company will have had nearly three years of lessons to learn and apply in its new endeavor. If New World Aeternum turns out to be an entirely different game, however, it can still have a shot at making the franchise live up to its initial potential. The move to PlayStation, one of the most popular platforms among gamers around the world — especially when it comes to multiplayer gaming, may end up being the shot in the arm that it needs.
