Almost two years after its release, Secret Level is finally getting the recognition fans always thought it deserved. The animated anthology, created by Deadpool director Tim Miller and produced by Blur Studio (Love, Death + Robots), is seeing a fresh wave of attention as Secret Level heads into its second season.
The show spans 15 episodes, each one a standalone story set in a different video game universe. These CG-animated shorts run anywhere from 7 to 17 minutes and stream exclusively on Prime Video. What makes Secret Level unique is how wide it goes with its IPs – a point emphasized by the Secret Level executive producers in a recent interview – from AAA titles like God of War and Warhammer 40,000 to indie games like Sifu and Spelunky. Of course, it still didn't quite hit the mark with every critic when it launched in late 2024, but that didn't stop it from becoming Amazon's biggest animated debut ever.
Our Favorite Video Game Adaptations of 2024
Video game adaptations continued on an upward trend in 2024 with both new and returning franchises making an impact.
As of January 2026, Secret Level is picking up buzz again — this time thanks to Games Workshop, which is reportedly wrapping up a new Warhammer: Age of Sigmar episode. The short is expected to drop ahead of Season 2 and help fill the gap between Secret Level's split release schedule. The update came from Games Workshop’s latest half-year report, which also pointed to the massive success of the Warhammer 40K episode featuring Titus that pulled in tons of attention on its own. Amazon had already greenlit a second season after the show’s huge debut, and it looks like things are finally ramping up for a late 2026 return.
Why Secret Level Is Finally Getting the Recognition It Deserves
A big part of Secret Level’s staying power is the stacked voice cast — Keanu Reeves, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Hart, Laura Bailey, and a bunch more. The Sifu episode became a fan favorite for its slick martial arts animation, while the Warhammer 40K short pulled in newcomers with its brutal, lore-heavy tone. One of the weirder surprises is that the creepy Pac-Man adaptation is now being turned into a full game. Critics weren’t totally sold at launch, but fans stuck with it. The show currently holds a 71% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and peaked at 83% following its Season 1 finale.
Of course, Season 2 might be on the way, but Secret Level still has something to prove. The real test will be whether it can deliver across all 15 episodes, not just a few standouts. That includes the controversial Concord installment that creators recently defended. As more studios lean into this short-form anthology format, it raises a bigger question as to whether fans will keep embracing bite-sized stories or start asking for full-blown series for their favorite games.
