Summary
- Fans anticipate AHS season 13 but details remain a mystery
- Suggestions for season 13: a humorous approach different from past seasons.
- Show creator Ryan Murphy hinted at exploring new worlds in AHS season 13.
The cliffhanger ending of season 12 proves why Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story is still such an engaging and intriguing horror series. In the years since the show's 2011 premiere, AHS has explored ghosts, clowns, creepy hotels, a writer's strange time in a beach town, and a family's lives being ruined when they move into an eerie old house. American Horror Story season 12, called Delicate, aired from September 2023 to April 2024 and focused on the twists and turns of Anna Victoria Alcott's (Emma Roberts) pregnancy.
In 2020, FX renewed American Horror Story for season 13, according to Entertainment Weekly, but the release date and story details are unknown. Besides AHS, Ryan Murphy has a long list of popular TV shows including the AHS spinoff American Horror Stories, Grotesquerie, and the 9-1-1 franchise. When American Horror Story season 13 comes out, it should include some aspects of Murphy's beloved shows.

American Horror Story Season 13 Should Embrace The Humorous Tone Of Ryan Murphy Shows Such As 9-1-1
Fans have ideas for American Horror Story season 13 and there are definitely numerous possibilities for a new scary story. But while viewers hope that the new season will be as fast-paced and terrifying as the previous seasons, it would be interesting if AHS season 13 was as funny as Ryan Murphy's procedural dramas 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star.
Murphy's shows like Grotesquerie are always full of twists and have featured big stars like Travis Kelce, Emma Roberts, Kim Kardashian, Sarah Paulson, Lady Gaga, and Jessica Lange. 9-11 and 9-1-1: Lone Star tell fascinating stories about first responders in Los Angeles and Austin, Texas, who deal with intense cases such as fires, kidnapping, wild animals in apartments, and more. Both shows have a sense of humor as the characters joke around in order to deal with their stressful lives. American Horror Story season 13 should maintain a sense of humor, too, as this would be something new and different for the franchise.
Although some AHS characters say funny dialogue, including the witches in American Horror Story season 3 called Coven, the overall tone of the show is creepy, not hilarious. American Horror Story season 13 could be inspired by slasher comedies or it could spoof supernatural stories like Poltergeist and The Amityville Horror. While slasher and paranormal elements have been included in previous seasons, such as 1984 and Murder House, some fresh stories could still be told.
The next season of American Horror Story could poke fun at and offer commentary on final girls, villains, and other horror movie characters. The season could even take cues from the meta commentary in the Scream franchise and make jokes about Murphy's shows 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Lone Star, and Doctor Odyssey, which stars Joshua Jackson as a doctor on a cruise ship. Since the past 12 seasons of AHS have been dark and intense , it could be fun if the new episodes had a lighter tone.
What Did Ryan Murphy Say About American Horror Story Season 13?
Ryan Murphy hasn't shared the premise of American Horror Story season 13, but he has given a few updates over the past little while. In October 2024, he told Variety:
“I haven’t really landed on it yet. There’s a couple things in contention."
Murphy continued:
"So I’m gonna have dinner with Sarah and Evan Peters in the not too distant future, because they’re both dear to me. I love that show. I’ll never give up on that show.”
John Landgraf, the FX chairman, also explained to Variety that Murphy took a break from American Horror Story to work on Grotesquerie. It has been almost a year since American Horror Story season 12 ended, and fans are definitely curious to see more. Landgraf said:
“One of the reasons that I thought that American Horror Story was such a brilliant idea was because Ryan loves to invent things. He loves to create worlds. American Horror Story gave Ryan an opportunity to just create all these worlds."
Murphy's American Horror Story is definitely an impressive series that covers various horror tropes and features many twists and turns. While fans continue to enjoy the spinoff American Horror Stories since every episode covers a different horror trope or topic, it's also fun to dive into each season of AHS since fans can become invested in the characters. Viewers can't wait to find out the premise of American Horror Story season 13, but in the meantime, they should catch up on season 12, which features compelling characters like the mysterious Siobhan Corbyn.
