Summary
- A creative player recently shared their Animal Crossing: New Horizons island, themed after Dead by Daylight.
- Five years after the game's launch, Animal Crossing players continue to create unique content.
An Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan who also has a taste for darker and more violent games has built their island's theme around the popular asymmetrical survival game Dead by Daylight. The saccharine visuals of Animal Crossing: New Horizons don't typically convey elements of horror very well, but the odd juxtaposition of creepy and cute serves as an interactive love letter to Behaviour Interactive's most well-known game.
Generally, Animal Crossing: New Horizon's scorpions and tarantulas provide the closest thing to a jump scare that players can expect. However, as the cozy life simulator remains popular even five years after its initial launch, players continue to find new ways to make their island getaways feel unique, and sometimes terrifying.
With No Animal Crossing Revealed for Switch 2 Yet, It May Be Time For New Horizons Fans to Bite the Bullet
With no Animal Crossing sequel in sight, it might be time for New Horizons fans to accept a long wait and look back to the previous game.
One player who recently shared a brief video tour of their island found a way to inject some horror into their game, transforming New Horizon's colorful cast of animal villagers into the latest round of Dead by Daylight' s Survivors. The video on TikTok by user itsSavvy shows how the creator used in-game elements like generators and lockers to set a baseline for elements shared between the two games, with the player also throwing together a variety of practical items at a makeshift campfire lobby area. There is also a generous usage of New Horizons' customization tools, letting the player display Dead by Daylight' s logo on the island's flag and the player's shirt and hat, a pair of stacked sign posts used to create a Killer's bloody hook, and custom floors leaving ominous scratch marks and red stains across the island's walkways.
Animal Crossing and Dead by Daylight Come Together on One Island
Much of the lasting appeal of the life simulator is the freedom it gives players in terms of customization, which allows them to create unique content like this Dead by Daylight crossover. There are still plenty of other players attracting attention with their creations, such as the player who recently shared their recreated Tears of the Kingdom cutscenes made in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Fans of the horror title have been treated to news regarding some major official Dead by Daylight collaborations starting at the beginning of May. First on the list, a collaboration with Assassin's Creed Shadows is lined up for May 27, although details on the content coming through this collaborative effort are still minimal. Another update, expected to arrive in June for the game's ninth anniversary, will bring players to a new Freddy Fazbear's Pizza map from the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise and will introduce Springtrap as a terrifying new Killer. Additionally, players can look forward to a crossover with The Witcher on June 3, which will provide them with new skins that bring Geralt, Ciri, Yennifer, Triss, and Eredin into The Fog.
