While Animal Crossing: New Horizons' 3.0 update adds a number of new features and quality of life improvements to the chilled-out life-sim, one of the main gameplay attractions comes in the form of Kappn's family's hotel. Players can help everyone's favorite sailor decorate the guest's rooms according to their preferred style, as well as select their outfits for visitors and generally be a pleasant presence around the resort. How to Unlock the Kappn's Resort Hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
To unlock Kappn's hotel, you need to make sure that you've at least 'unlocked' him first by having at least one encounter with him already. This requires you to have a three-star town rating so that K.K Slider performs in your town, you've unlocked Resident Services, and K.K. Slider has performed once on your island already.
As long as you've done this, Isabelle will let you know that ordinances are available (read: boat tours). This means you can now head down to the pier to meet Kapp'n and hop on his boat to explore the seas with him.
Once this is done, make sure you've downloaded the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 update. As long as you have this installed, when you first load the game after downloading it, Isabelle will let you know that a resort hotel has opened on the pier. Now all you need to do is head to the pier on your island and head inside.
Helping Set Up the Resort Hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
When you head inside, no other than Tom Nook will be waiting for you to introduce Kappn's family. Before you have full access to decorating rooms to your heart's content, you'll first need to help Leilani decorate one room (almost as a tutorial).
When it comes to decorating the hotel rooms, you need to follow the theme that Leilani gives you. In the first instance, she requested I aim for a 'seaside room atmosphere.' This is pretty straightforward and won't take more than about 5–10 minutes. If you're not sure how best to style the room around the theme, just use the 'Recommended Tab' by pressing right on the d-pad for some furniture that'll fit the vibe.
When that's all done, use your Nook Phone to take a photo of the room and then speak to Leilani and select 'I'm done.'
For using your interior decorating skills, you'll be given 200 Tickets, which can be spent at Gram's shop on the right side when you first enter the hotel.
