As Animal Crossing: New Horizons continues to be a massive success, Nintendo has been hard at work keeping the game updated. On May 21 a new patch was released, titled 1.2.1. Curiously however, Nintendo’s patch notes don’t shed much light on what exactly is being patched. All that the patch notes say is that it, “addressed issues to further ensure an enjoyable gaming experience.”
Initial reports from players suggest that Nintendo has finally closed the item duplication exploit, so it could be that Nintendo opted not to advertise the changes it made so as to not anger fans that were enjoying that exploit. So, any player looking to make any last-minute bells in Animal Crossing: New Horizons should be sure to load the game without connecting to the internet to download the patch, assuming their Switch has not already auto-updated.
Nintendo has promised “continuous updates” going forward, and Nintendo has never been very fond of cheaters, so none of this should come as a surprise that it would remove the duplication exploit. Nintendo is no stranger to duplication glitches either, as Pokemon has had numerous different Pokemon duplication glitches over the years as methods of Pokemon trading have changed. Still, it is unusual not to specify the purpose of a patch. It has yet to be reported if any other changes have been observed by players, although if there are, we will likely hear about them in the coming days. Hopefully some more harmless glitches like being able walk in water will live to see another day.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is currently having a Stamp Rally until the end of May to celebrate Museum Day. Players can earn rewards like museum plaques to display elsewhere on the island for private collections or just fun. All they have to do is go on a treasure hunt for Blathers inside the museum.
Not everyone is celebrating Museum Day, though. Animal Rights activist group PETA recently took to social media like Twitter and TikTok to share its digital protest against Blathers and his museum full of animals. How PETA managed to have a museum to protest at without capturing and donating the requisite animals needed however remains to be seen.
