They first became friends after he lent her his umbrella, and they've lived next door to each other ever since. This anime is emotional as she discovers more about herself and the world around her.

With Mahiru in his life, he is able to eat home-cooked meals and with Sorata in Mashiro’s life, she is able to do other activities outside of drawing.

Masachika and Alya’s relationship is slow and gradual just like Amane and Mahiru’s. Alya and Mahiru are both beautiful girls with guys in their school fawning over them but they pay no interest in them. Masachika and Amane are regular guys at school who do not stand out but possess something other guys in their school die for, Alya and Mahiru’s attention and eventually, heart.

Kiyoka helps Miyo get over her traumatic upbringing. He proves to her that he is more than the cruel commander everyone paints him to be. His supportive nature is similar to that of Amane as they both help the women in their lives overcome their trauma and shower them with love, care, and respect.

Living close to each other is what makes the protagonists fall in love in A Galaxy Next Door and in The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten. Mahiru is kind to Amane and helps him with basic things like cooking and cleaning, which, to Amane, is a lot. On the other hand, Shiori’s presence as Ichiro’s assistant brings sales to his business, and he can overcome challenges and tackle his stress.
