Aniplex Online Fest 2024: Crunchyroll Acquires Fate/strange Fake, SAO Alternative, and More

Aniplex Online Fest 2024 was livestreamed this past weekend, and when everyone wasn't rightfully going ballistic over the new Madoka Magica trailer, there was plenty else to get excited about too. Between the hotly anticipated Fate/strange Fake to Studio Shaft's Virgin Punk, it was a packed stream, and Crunchyroll was quick to announce which shows they'd be streaming.

Held on Sunday, September 15, Aniplex Online Fest is the Japanese entertainment company's yearly online event to share updates and announcements for some of the biggest properties. There were over 20 anime presented this year, be they new announcements or anticipated updates, and Crunchyroll has confirmed the acquisition of seven of these titles.

These Shows Are Coming to Crunchyroll

Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II

Of all Sword Art Online's MMO settings, none lends itself more to a standalone installment than Gun Gale Online, the futuristic military MMO introduced in Sword Art Online II way back in 2014. Sword Art Online Alternative answered that call, and after Studio 3Hz transferred animation production to A-1 Pictures, the second season is fast approaching, back to the studio where the SAO anime all started. Expect lots of guns and one particularly lethal "Pink Devil".

Fate/strange Fake

No doubt the most anticipated Fate adaptation since Heaven's Feel, Fate/strange Fake takes the series to America, based on the light novel series by Ryohgo Narita (Durarara, Baccano). After the acclaimed Whispers of Dawn special last year and the novels' conclusion this year, fans have eagerly awaited news about the TV series in production. Thankfully, the premiere is slated to be shown this November during the Fate 20th Anniversary Showcase.

I May Be a Guild Receptionist, but I'll Solo Any boss to Clock Out on Time

To save you some time, the shortened title is Girumasu. It follows Alina Clover, a new receptionist at the Adventurers Guild who despairs the overtime she's subjected to on account of adventurers taking so long to clear dungeons. Spurred on by nothing but her desire to leave work at a reasonable hour, she decides to defeat the dungeon's monsters herself in secret.

UniteUp! -Uni:Birth-

From the director of 2018's I Want To Eat Your Pancreas comes the second season in the UniteUp! Series, which follows Akira Kiyose, a young man scouted to become an idol. Recruited by an agency founded to foster promising talent, he forms a group with two other scouted idols, Banri Naoe, and Chihiro Isuzugawa.

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective

Everyone loves a good medical series about a genius doctor with all the answers and Ameku M.D. Is here to scratch that itch in anime form. Set in Tenikai General Hospital, Takao Ameku investigates patients whose circumstances are deemed too difficult to be handled by other doctors. She might even help solve a murder or two while she's at it.

DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR Animation with ENHYPEN

Based on the boy band ENHYPEN, this is an adaptation of the webtoon Dark Moon: The Blood Altar, featuring characters based on the boy band's members. Set at the prestigious Decelis Academy, it follows a young girl who befriends a group of boys with supernatural powers who start looking into a murder allegedly carried out by a vampire.

May I Ask for One Final Thing?

Scarlet El Vandimion is fed up. She's been dealing with her idiot fiancé Kyle for years, to say nothing of his fellow aristocrats, and the reward for her patience is her engagement being called off in the middle of a ball. Unlucky for him, her red dress pairs very well with a set of leather gloves begging to hit something. Her final request? To punch him straight in the face. This story follows one scorned woman's rose-colored rebellion.
