Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for You season 5.

Summary

  • Anna Camp's performance in You season 5 as Maddie and Raegan Lockwood captivates, foreshadowing a compelling presence in Scream 7.
  • Camp's diverse acting background positions her to potentially portray Ghostface in Scream 7 with riveting darkness.
  • Camp expressed excitement for Scream 7, hinting at a chilling and exciting cinematic experience that fans will relish.

In December 2024, fans found out Anna Camp was cast in Scream 7, and while there are no details about her character, there are two clear paths: villain or one of Ghostface's victims. Recently, I enjoyed watching Camp play twins Maddie and Raegan Lockwood on Netflix's You. She portrayed characters with opposite personalities effortlessly and is one reason why Joe Goldberg's (Penn Badgley) last chapter is so compelling.

Camp has played a variety of roles throughout her career, from evil Sarah Newlin on True Blood to ambitious and tough Aubrey Posen in the Pitch Perfect franchise. She joins many other new cast members in the seventh Scream movie including Asa Germann, Celeste O'Connor, Mckenna Grace, Isabel May, Jimmy Tatro, and Michelle Randolph. After seeing Camp lend her talent to You season 5, I have an idea of what kind of character I hope she plays in Scream 7, and I think she would be fascinating.

Anna Camp's You Season 5 Role Makes Me Excited About Her Scream 7 Casting

Anna Camp on You

While You season 5, of course, focuses on Joe Goldberg, Anna Camp's dual role of Maddie and Ragean Lockwood steals the show. I loved the twist at the end of You season 5, episode 3: Joe put kind and good-natured Maddie, not evil Raegan, in his cage, and now he has to figure out how to fix this mess. Since Camp plays cruel and vindictive Raegan so well, I would be happy to see Camp play Ghostface in Scream 7.

Since Camp has starred in cheerful comedies such as Pitch Perfect, I think she would be a surprising Ghostface, and that would work well. There are so many paths that the upcoming slasher sequel can go down, from featuring one shocking Ghostface to revealing a huge group of evil characters. While Camp is talented enough to play a single Ghostface since her villain would definitely stand out, it would also be fun to see her be part of a dangerous and violent team. Every time Ragean talks on You, Camp's talent is obvious as Raegen's hatred, fear, and determination are written all over her face in each scene.

While I would love to see Camp play twins again since she did such a memorable job, it seems unlikely that she would do this again in Scream 7. However, I still think Camp's Scream role could be unforgettable and one of the best in the movie. A fan pointed out that Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) needs a friend, and it would be great to see Camp play the final girl's good pal. Maybe Camp befriends Sidney because she's been planning a killing spree and wants to keep tabs on her. After watching her portray the terrifying Raegan in You season 5, particularly at the beginning of the season when Raegan is scheming, I want to see Camp play more dark, haunting, and unsettling characters.

Although my first choice would be to see her play the new Ghostface, it would also be interesting if Camp's character knew Ghostface and was connected to them somehow. Maybe she doesn't kill anyone, but she could be their accomplice who is pulling the strings behind the scenes.

What Did Anna Camp Say About Joining Scream 7?

Anna Camp as Sarah Newlin on True Blood

In an interview with TODAY, Anna Camp talked about being cast in Scream 7, and she shared that she's a big fan of the slasher franchise. She said she saw Scream in the theater and explained:

"It definitely was a full circle moment."

Camp continued:

"So to be on set and be acting with Neve Campbell, and Courteney Cox, and these icons, Kevin Williamson... It was an absolute dream come true. I know that fans are going to be very happy, very scared, and they're probably going to screaming in their seats."

It's been great hearing the Scream 7 cast talk about filming the movie, from Jasmin Savoy Brown's praise for director Kevin Williamson to Mason Gooding's statement that the film is "gory." Although Camp didn't share much, it sounds like she had a great experience, and her words will likely make fans even more ready to see the final product.

Fans will have to wait until Scream 7's February 27th, 2026 release date to find out what kind of character Camp plays. In the meantime, they can watch all 10 episodes of You season 5 and see Camp's excellent performance.
