Aqueducts are a staple of Ancient Roman history and a testament to their engineering and architecture. In Anno 117: Pax Romana, as in real life, Aqueducts provide clean drinking water to urban populations, but unlike most buildings in the historical city-builder, they have to be constructed piece by piece, and have a few conditions that must be met. They are also unlocked fairly late into the game, so this guide will walk players through both parts of how to unlock and build aqueducts in Anno 117: Pax Romana.
How To Increase City Status In Anno 117 Pax Romana
City Status in Anno 117: Pax Romana can unlock new features for the player's city, but most importantly affect the city's attribute.
How To Unlock Aqueducts In Anno 117: Pax Romana
Aqueducts are first unlocked when players upgrade a Plebeian Residence to an Eques Residence, which means satisfying Plebeian needs with Bread, Garum, Sanctuaries, Grammaticus buildings, Sandals, and Soap.
Furthermore, to build Aqueducts in Anno 117: Pax Romana, a civilization will need plenty of Concrete, which should be unlocked around a similar time. Wood, Tiles, and coin are also required.
How To Build Aqueducts In Anno 117: Pax Romana
Aqueduct systems are comprised of three parts: Aqueduct Source, Aqueduct, and Aqueduct Cistern. Each system will have one Aqueduct Source, but then the main line can have many parts. An Aqueduct can also have more than one Cistern, allowing water to be used at multiple locations.
Importantly, Aqueducts must flow downhill, so consider the topography of your island when planning.
The Aqueduct Source must be placed in a Mountain Slot, and these will be highlighted when trying to place the Source. As these slots are also used by Limestone Quarries and Iron Mines, make sure you don't use up all the slots, or be ready to replace one.
Players can then connect the main Aqueduct parts to this source, directing it toward areas that need water. At the end or at intervals, players can place the Aqueduct Cistern, which provides Health and Fire Safety to nearby buildings.
Press V to toggle planning mode o n, allowing players to map out the route of an Aqueduct without committing Concrete or coin to the project.
It's also possible to have branches coming off the main Aqueduct to direct water to even more locations where another Cistern can be built. Just remember, these branches must still flow downhill.
How To Get & Use Specialists In Anno 117 Pax Romana
Specialists can aid players in Anno 117: Pax Romana by providing various buffs; here's how to get and use them.
Aqueduct Boosts Via Research In Anno 117: Pax Romana
By gaining Knowledge via the Grammaticus building and other means, new Discoveries can be researched in Anno 117: Pax Romana, including a few that make Aqueducts even more effective. Most of these are Economic Discoveries, so consider dipping into this tech tree.
For example, there is Duct Irrigation, which boosts farms, Aqua Arborica, which boosts plantations, and Hushing, which boosts mines. For each of these, make sure to place Aqueduct Cisterns nearby.
By clicking on the Aqueduct, you will see which Cisterns and nearby farms, for example, are taking up water, to a maximum of 100. If you have too many farms or plantations nearby, using up all the water, they can be turned off in this menu.
You can also click on farms or plantations to see if they are being supplied by water and thus have increased productivity.
