How To Increase City Status In Anno 117 Pax Romana
City Status in Anno 117: Pax Romana is like the level of your city, which represents how large the settlement is in terms of Population. You can see the requirement to level up the City Status by checking the Roman number at the top of the screen, to the left of the settings button, to the right of the island's name.
In this tooltip, you can check things like:
- How far you are from the next City Status.
- The type and level of city you currently have.
- Your Romanisation level, percentage, and influence.
- The detailed attribute effects that City Status has on your city.
Keep in mind that the Population is not the number of Workforce you have. Instead, boosting the Population can be done by placing buildings that increase the Population. For example, at the start, you will utilize Market and Tavern to grow your Population.
Here's the City Status and required population for the first five levels:

What Does City Status Do In Anno 117 Pax Romana?
A high City Status will reduce Happiness, Health, and Fire Safety, but increase Belief, Knowledge, and Prestige. This makes sense since a large Population will come with more risks, but at the same time, more progress with civilization.

City Status is also required to unlock new things in the city. For example, after moving to Albion in the campaign, you need to reach City Status level four to unlock Vigiles, a City Watch building that helps extinguish fire when it occurs. Meanwhile, in Latium of Endless Sandbox mode, Vigiles is unlocked after reaching City Status level two.
