Something that sets Another Crab's Treasure apart from other games in the Soulslike genre is its heavy reliance on platforming-based exploration. Throughout the world of Another Crab's Treasure you may run into gigantic, impassable glowing purple cubes that ominously hum and undulate.

These aren't just environmental scenery or decorative trash, though – they are actually destructible. To destroy glowing purple cubes, you must venture relatively far into the game and past several Another Crab's Treasure main bosses to learn a unique Adaptation.

Glowing Purple Cubes: Obstacles That Turn Into Shortcuts

Another Crab's Treasure Glowing Cube Shortcut-1

Glowing purple cubes can typically be found lodged into scenery around the world of Another Crab's Treasure. When you destroy a glowing purple cube in Another Crab's Treasure, one of two things typically happens. Either a shortcut is unlocked between two areas that would normally take a lot longer to get between, or the path to a completely new area is revealed.

For example, in the Expired Grove, a glowing purple cube blocks the way to a secret boss fight. Though you can run into these world obstacles pretty early in Another Crab's Treasure, glowing purple cubes can't be destroyed until around the mid-game – and you have to beat a "secret" boss.

To get the ability to destroy the glowing purple cubes, you must defeat the Umami Master, Grovekeeper Topeda. To get to Topeda, you must first defeat Heikea, Intimidation Crab. Look for a small platform at the top-end of the ship, and jump down to it. Continue through a cave, through the Curdled Village, and through a brief area beyond to eventually find Topeda's Grove.

Another Crab's Treasure: Why You Should Instantly Die

There are some good reasons to choose the "Instantly Die" option in Another Crab's Treasure – and ways to make it less punishing.

You will know you are in the right place when you see Chitan – the lobster who previously guarded the Duchess' castle – standing outside. Go into the grove, then beat the boss to turn him into a friendly NPC.

In addition to Microplastics, Kril gets another reward for beat the Umami Master: the Mantis Punch Adaptation. This Adaptation can be used both in and out of combat – when used in front of a glowing purple cube, it will be shattered instantly.

Use the Mantis Punch adaptation to break glowing purple cubes in Another Crab's Treasure and unlock new shortcuts and new areas entirely. Remember to head back to previously-explored areas to see if there are any cubes you missed and couldn't break before.
