Another Crab’s Treasure has revealed the free Year of the Crab update coming on April 21, bringing the highly requested New Game Plus and more content. This update helps developer Aggro Crab celebrate the first anniversary of Another Crab’s Treasure and arrives alongside the announcement of physical editions of the game coming later in 2025.

While many games were released throughout 2024, Another Crab’s Treasure stood out to many fans due to its unique spin on the soulslike genre. As opposed to some other games in the genre with a darker art style, Aggro Crab’s third-person adventure featured a more colorful coat of paint. However, many players enjoyed that the world still featured challenging battles against a range of undersea-themed bosses and had some serious themes about pollution in the oceans. This formula has worked out well for the developer, resulting in the game selling over 500,000 copies.

Now, Aggro Crab hopes to continue the momentum of Another Crab's Treasure with the upcoming Year of the Crab update. Among the highlights of this free content update is New Game Plus, a much-requested feature by the community. According to the developer, the mode does more than scale up enemy stats. Instead, New Game Plus for Another Crab’s Treasure will feature new moves for bosses and new items. In addition, the developer has “remixed almost every enemy encounter in the game.” Players will be able to check out New Game Plus on Xbox, PS5, and PC starting on April 21, with the developer noting the Switch version will receive the update "soon after."

Beyond New Game Plus, the Year of the Crab update will introduce other content, including new costumes that dress Kril up as a caveman, wizard, and more. The game is also getting a Boss Rush mode, allowing players to run through the gauntlet of challenging in-game foes. The trailer for the update even revealed a brand-new boss is coming to the game. Besides this, players will be able to refight bosses in Another Crab's Treasure through Combat Memories, check out a Museum Bestiary, and earn new Trophies and Achievements.

As if this free content update was not enough, Another Crab’s Treasure is getting a physical release in 2025. Working in conjunction with iam8bit, Aggro Crab will release physical versions of the game for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Fortunately, these new editions will include both the base game and its DLC. According to the developer, full details about the upcoming physical editions will be revealed soon.

It is nice to see Another Crab’s Treasure continue to receive support a year after its release. Given the game's popularity, it will be interesting to see what else Aggro Crab has in store for the popular 2024 soulslike in the months ahead.
