Another Crab's Treasure, a Soulslike game featuring a colorful story with some dark undertones, releases on April 25. Not only is anticipation at an all-time high because it's a day-one release for Xbox Game Pass, but because the core concept for a Soulslike game is something so unlike others in the genre. It'll be interesting to see how that translates to gameplay at release, but it's fair to say that it's a promising concept.
However, game development never really stops. Although Aggro Crab doesn't have concrete plans for Another Crab's Treasure post-release quite yet, studio head/art director Nick Kaman and creative director/narrative lead Caelan Pollock did confirm the studio is already working on its next game in a The Best War Games interview.
10 Most Ridiculous Weapons In Soulslike Games
Not every weapon in a Soulslike game is meant to look 'cool'. In fact, there are quite a few weapons that are designed to look ridiculous instead.
When we asked about possible post-launch plans for Another Crab's Treasure, the duo understandably explained that they didn't want to promise anything. Indie game development is inherently risky, and as Pollock put it, "the success of a game can just make a huge difference as to what you can or can't do."
Aggo Crab is obviously sticking around to fix bugs "at a bare minimum," and both Kaman and Pollock mentioned possible post-launch content for Another Crab's Treasure—if they can. There are things they'd like to add to it, but whether they can or not depends on the success of the game. It's an understandable point, and it'll be interesting to see if DLC does manifest for Another Crab's Treasure in some form. The game feels designed for Soulslike fans needing something new and different, and it's an easy recipe for success (sans crab meat, of course).
The studio isn't resting on its laurels though, regardless of the launch. Pollock said it simply,
"We are working on our next game already."
What that game is remains to be seen. If the new game is anything like Another Crab's Treasure or Aggro Crab's prior game, Going Under, then fans can expect plenty of humor packed into a colorful game, where maybe everything isn't as happy as it seems on the surface. With that so far out, however, it's likely many are looking forward to Another Crab's Treasure's unique Soulslike take whetting their appetites well beforehand.
