  • Anya Taylor-Joy is reportedly being considered for Spider-Man 4.
  • Spider-Man 4's plot is shrouded in secrecy and is set for release in July 2026.
  • Speculation surrounds Taylor-Joy's role, with theories suggesting she could be Gwen Stacy or Black Cat.

At this point, it’s rare to find an actor in Hollywood who hasn’t starred in a Marvel Studios movie, but Anya Taylor-Joy is one of the few exceptions. That streak may be about to end, however, as the Furiosa star is reportedly being considered for an appearance in a major upcoming MCU film.

News has been heating up around Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man film, which will be directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Destin Daniel-Cretton. Recently, the film received an official release date of July 24, 2026 with filming expected to begin in 2025. Plot details of the new Spider-Man film are being kept under wraps, but it will presumably continue from the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw Doctor Strange cast a spell that erased the memory of Peter Parker from everyone’s minds, including Peter’s girlfriend MJ, and best friend Ned. Spider-Man 4 is set to release between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, meaning its plot may be integral to the wider MCU.

Anya Taylor-Joy Rumored For Spider-Man 4

Now casting for the MCU sequel is starting to heat up, with industry insider Daniel RPK revealing that Anya Taylor-Joy is being considered for a role in Spider-Man 4. The role was not disclosed but would be Taylor-Joy’s first foray into the MCU. The actress previously starred in Fox’s The New Mutants as Magik, and has also held lead roles in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, The Queen’s Gambit, and voiced Princess Peach in the Super Mario Bros. Movie. Taylor-Joy also held a small role in Dune: Part Two but is expected to return in the sequel Dune: Messiah.

Speculation is already rife about which MCU role Taylor-Joy could be considered for. Some theories point to her playing the MCU’s version of Gwen Stacy, a role held by Bryce Dallas Howard in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and by Emma Stone in Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man films. Hailee Steinfeld voices Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen in the animated Spider-Verse films and, should Marvel utilize one of Stacy’s multiverse versions, this could open the door for Taylor-Joy to play a web-slinger as well.

Could Anya Taylor-Joy Finally Bring Black Cat to the MCU?

Another popular theory is that Taylor-Joy could finally bring Black Cat (aka Felicia Hardy) into a live-action Spider-Man film. The antagonist has almost appeared in both Raimi’s Marvel films and The Amazing Spider-Man, but is yet to make a proper debut. Sony executive Amy Pascal addressed the rumors of Taylor-Joy’s appearances in a cryptic manner recently. When asked about the rumors of Taylor-Joy playing Black Cat, Pascal told Metro Entertainment “She would be fantastic, she’s amazing. We’re not quite at that stage yet. There’s a lot of fantastic female characters, but I can't talk about all this.” There are some rumors that Spider-Man 4 will be a multiverse story, which could also mean Taylor-Joy could be enlisted to reprise her role as Magik in the MCU. At this point, it’s all speculation until confirmed by Sony, but there’s no doubt Taylor-Joy would make an exciting addition to the fourth Spider-Man film.

Spider-Man 4 is scheduled to release on July 24, 2026.
