- Fan feedback prompts developers to slow down on controversial changes, focus on fan complaints.
Respawn has acknowledged the problem of cheating in Apex Legends. The acknowledgment comes following intense backlash from the community, which called the developers of Apex Legends tone-deaf for not dealing with "real" issues in the game.
As a major player in the Battle Royale scene, Apex Legends has maintained its relevance with updates designed to keep the gameplay dynamic. Now, five years into its successful run, the game is facing difficulties. Fans have been giving Apex Legends negative reviews on Steam and even leaving the game altogether in an effort to force the developers to listen to their feedback. The recent development showed the effectiveness of the tactic, and not only because the developers rolled back most of the controversial Battle Pass changes.
Apex Legends Event Adding 12v12 Deathmatch
Apex Legends is adding a hectic 12v12 game mode in which players can unlock rewards as part of the newest limited-time event, Void Reckoning.
In a recent interview with IGN, Apex Legends' Game Director, Steven Ferreira, acknowledged the issues of cheating found in the game. He stated that Apex Legends is the community's game and that their efforts in bringing new events to the game does not mean that they are not working on issues that matter to players. He explains that the issues of cheating and competitive integrity are always at the forefront of their minds, but the fix is not as simple. Instead of slapping on a band-aid fix, he points out their commitment to long-lead time initiatives that would act as a more permanent solution.
Apex Legends' Director Commits to Better Communication with Fans
He also acknowledged that the lack of communication was a misstep on their part in rolling out the controversial Apex Legends Battle Pass changes too quickly. The backlash of the community came as a result of this decision, which could have been avoided with a slower approach and better fan feedback instead of just going off the data.
This ties into the developers' commitment to speaking with the fans more in the future. The Game Director stated that they already have some things coming out in the next season, and others that span multiple seasons in the future, that deal exactly with the problems Apex Legends fans have been facing.
The decision to connect more with the Apex Legends community has a chance to revitalize fans' faith in the developers. Apex Legends season 22 starts on August 6, which may be the first benchmark in proving to the fans that the developers are actively working towards cementing Apex Legends as one of the best free-to-play shooters.
