As a live service title, the massive popular battle royale game Apex Legends is constantly evolving. In addition to new seasons which add everything from characters, weapons, and other content, Respawn Entertainment is releasing updates on a fairly consistent basis to make sure bugs and other issues don't hamper players as they attempt to be the last squad standing. New modes have also appeared from time to time, like the popular Control mode, which took the traditional gameplay and introduced a new way to play.

In addition to bug fixes and seasonal drops every few months, limited time events can also pop up. These events typically focus around a certain theme, such as Pathfinder's Fight Night which added a big oval boxing ring which disabled all weapons and abilities forcing players to only use their fists. Collection events such as this also typically introduce exclusive loot players can earn through challenge tracks, the in-game store, and through special loot packs.

From July 19 through August 2, Respawn is kicking off a new limited time event called Gaiden inside of Apex Legends. While the event brings back the Armed and Dangerous mode, which gives players access to shotguns and sniper rifles only, players can earn Anime inspired gear for multiple characters. Here's what players can earn, as well as how to unlock them.

Unlocking Gaiden Skins

Similar to past collection events in Apex Legends, players have multiple ways to unlock all 40 pieces of cosmetic items.

For those who absolutely want the legendary anime-inspired skins, they'll need to pick up Gaiden Event Packs, which guarantee one non-duplicate event item. While these can be purchased with Apex Coins, EA has also confirmed that Gaiden items can be crafted with crafting metals, though it did not specify how much each will cost. Thankfully, players can also earn Gaiden Event Packs by playing through the second challenge reward track that takes place from July 26 to August 2. Upon getting to 3000 points, the pack will be rewarded.

Finally, the in-game store also has special bundles including the "Marked Man Bundle" which includes 10 Gaiden Event Packs and the Mirage Deku skin which is based on My Hero Academia. It'll be available through the entire two-week event and will cost 4000 Apex Coins, or roughly $40 USD.

Gaiden Rewards

So now that players know how to earn unique anime loot in Apex Legends, here's what is available:

The Gaiden collection features 40 event specific cosmetic items including unique banner frames, banner poses, and much more. However, most players will likely be interested in the Legendary skins available for Revenant, Mirage, Octane and Wattson as they're inspired by major anime franchises. Not only that, each legendary skin comes with a complimentary weapon skin for the VK-47 Flatline assault rifle, Wingman pistol, EVA-8 shotgun and Charge Rifle.

Based on the information Respawn supplied for the Gaiden event, fans have already noticed clear inspiration for the following characters:

  • Revenant's skin has been made to resemble a mecha from the popular anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. The complimentary skin is for the Flatline AR.
  • Octane may have the easiest skin to identify as it is based on the character Luffy from One Piece. His complimentary weapon skin is for the EVA-8 and resembles a blunderbuss.
  • Wattson's legendary skin is based on the orange ninja Naruto Uzumaki from the Naruto and Boruto series. Her weapon skin is for the Charge Rifle.
  • Finally, the last legendary skin turns Mirage into Deku from My Hero Academy. In addition, there's a complimentary skin for the Wingman pistol.

For those who manage to acquire all 40 items during this event, they'll unlock Bangalore’s “Apex Commander” prestige skin. This is a skin that has 3 different tiers that can be unlocked, with each tier changing how the cosmetic looks. It also features a brand new finisher attack called Close Quarters Combat.

Apex Legends is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
