The Nintendo Switch 2 is slowly expanding its lineup of games, with the multiplayer Apex Legends coming to the console on August 5. Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale Apex Legends is one of the most popular multiplayer games of this generation, and now Nintendo fans will be able to play it on the Switch 2 with improved performance.
Switch 2 owners have a lot of games to look forward to, including Nintendo’s own titles like Kirby and the Forgotten Land, as well as others like Madden NFL 26, Machik 2, or even exclusive titles like FromSoftware's The Duskbloods. The Switch 2’s capabilities will allow Nintendo fans to finally play games that didn’t work on the original Switch, or even titles that didn’t run smoothly on it, like Apex Legends. The popular battle royale had some initial troubles on the old console, as its technical performance was unfortunately not ideal, leaving many fans frustrated. But now that’s about to change, and Apex Legends fans who got themselves a Switch 2 should be excited.

Apex Legends Launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 5
As announced during the July 31 Nintendo Direct, Apex Legends is coming to the Switch 2 on August 5. The game will come with improved visuals and performance, as well as Battle Royale and limited-time modes. While specific details about performance have not yet been specified by Respawn, players can definitely expect a much smoother experience thanks to the Switch 2’s powerful specs.
Additionally, players on both Switch 1 and Switch 2 can get the Legendary Pathfinder skin by logging into Apex Legends before September 16. On the Switch 2, Nintendo has the chance to further solidify its Apex Legends audience, offering them a console that can actually compete against current powerful gaming consoles.
In addition to bringing the game to a new platform, Respawn has also been making changes to the game while teasing upcoming content for players. The developer recently implemented temporary matchmaking changes for Apex Legends’ ranked mode, impacting high-skilled players like Masters and Predators, preventing them from joining matches with less-skilled users.
Moreover, Respawn has released a developer deep dive to explain more about the new permanent Wildcard mode launching with Apex Legends' new season. This mode features 30-player lobbies on Kings Canyon, packed with plenty of new mobility options across the map and a simplified inventory and loot system to keep the focus on gunfights, plus other fresh twists on the classic experience. As Respawn prepares to drop Apex Legends' Season 26, Nintendo Switch 2 players definitely have a lot to get hyped about.
