Apex Legends' Battle Pass and Review Bomb Controversy Explained

Respawn's attempt to massively change Apex Legend's battle pass caused a massive uproar in the game's community, and with good reason.

While each new season of Apex Legends often includes changes to Ranked, the seasonal split is something fans have become accustomed to. Ranked split is supposed to take place at the halfway point of the season, but Apex Legends players were left confused after the split occurred just one week after Season 22 went live. This severe glitch resulted in players around the world having their Ranked level reset, but the map rotation and battle passes still appear to remain as normal. While this is incredibly annoying for Apex players, Respawn Entertainment has already responded to the issue and says it's working to deploy a fix.

Respawn Entertainment Addresses Sudden Apex Legends Ranked Split

Respawn addressed the issue shortly after it occurred, and in a follow-up post, the developer said that it was continuing to work on a fix to restore Ranks and RP to players. The studio also went on to confirm that Ranked would remain unavailable for those who have been affected by the sudden split. Fans were rightly annoyed by the issue, with many stating that Ranked being unavailable for over 10 hours simply isn't good enough.

With Season 22 of Apex Legends now in full swing, it's proving to be one of the most controversial content updates yet. Prior to its release, Respawn Entertainment confirmed that aim assist would be massively nerfed in Apex Legends with the launch of Season 22: Shockwave, which quickly drew backlash from much of the community.

While the update did add plenty of new features to Apex Legends, Season 22 sparked even more outrage in the game's community after revealing that Respawn intended to split each season's Battle Pass into two separate entities. While that might not seem like a big deal, Respawn also originally planned to remove the ability to purchase the passes with Apex Coins and charge $9.99 per pass. But Respawn ended up walking back these changes after players threatened to boycott Apex Legends.
