Apex Legends developer Respawn has released a new update that fixes several issues that were introduced to the game following its Season 26 release. Among these fixes are improvements to the Accolades notification system in Apex Legends, and the removal of extraneous UI in Wildcard for Caustic's passive ability, Field Research.
Meanwhile, Respawn continues its efforts in porting the game to new platforms, with Apex Legends releasing on Nintendo Switch 2 back on August 5. Alongside this release, Apex Legends players on Switch and Switch 2 have been given a limited-time opportunity to unlock an exclusive Legendary Pathfinder skin simply by logging into the game on either platform before September 16.
Apex Legends Update Fixes Annoying Bugs
Apex Legends gets another new patch, this time addressing frustrating bugs that some players have encountered in the battle royale.
Apex Legends developer Respawn temporarily disabled the game’s recently added Accolades feature following complaints regarding its bothersome notification system. Shortly after disabling it, Respawn took to social media to confirm the release of a new update with fixes, including a new compact setting for Accolades that "now mutes audio properly." This is huge as, shortly after the feature's introduction, several Apex Legends players took to social media to share clips with Respawn demonstrating just how obnoxious the notifications for Accolades could be. In several of these clips, the “ding” notification of earned Accolades was shown as constant and disruptive, with some likening the sound to Hector Salamanca’s persistent bell-ringing in Breaking Bad.
The latest update from Respawn also remedies other problems that players have complained about following the launch of Season 26 for Apex Legends, including the Ranked Distribution screen not displaying properly before Battle Royale matches. Additionally, Respawn has opted to remove "extraneous UI" for Caustic's passive Field Research ability in the game's new Wildcard mode.
Players will undoubtedly appreciate Respawn’s quick action in fixing Accolades as they’ll no longer be bombarded with “ding” notifications every time an achievement is earned. This isn’t Respawn’s first time pulling a new addition in order to make last-minute adjustments either, with the developer temporarily removing Revenant from Apex Legends after the launch of Season 25 due to a game-breaking bug with the character’s Ultimate. To Respawn’s credit, Revenant’s broken Ultimate was fixed fairly quickly, with the developer also taking action against players who unfairly abused the exploit before it could be patched out.
Apex Legends remains highly influential regardless of these issues, with Ubisoft’s rumored upcoming contender — currently known under the codename “Project Scout” — reportedly taking direct inspiration from Respawn's battle royale hit. According to reporting from Insider Gaming, Ubisoft’s developers even used art from Apex Legends as a placeholder thumbnail image for its unannounced project.
