Dominate The High Ground

Dominate The Game

  • More visibility means easier targeting
  • Height grants a considerable advantage against enemies using the terrain as cover

Many players underestimate the power of the High Ground (as Anakin Skywalker once did) and end up crawling on the ground, cursing their luck. But the truth is that in ARC Raiders, as in any shooter, whoever has the high ground has the advantage. It not only grants a considerable advantage in terms of visibility, since it allows players to aim above coverage and snipe players who try to hide behind rocks, but it is also a powerful crowd control mechanic, since most Raiders don't know how to access certain elevated positions, and cannot ambush those who use it to their advantage.

For those who don't know how to take the elevated positions without compromising themselves, there are two essential tools they should learn how to use: One is the Snap Hook, and the second is the Zipline. Learn how these two work, and dominate the battlefield, bringing death from above.

Use Lure Grenades To Make ARC Enemies Flush Out Players From Buildings

The Most Underestimated Grenade In The Game

Lure Grenade ARC Raiders
  • The most overpowered grenade in the game
  • Highly underestimated, use this to your advantage

When players go around the many maps of ARC Raiders looting containers and caches, they might stumble upon a throwable weapon called Lure Grenade. This gadget attaches to a surface once thrown, and starts emitting a noise that attracts ARC Enemies to the area. The effective radius is approximately 350 meters, which is a lot, and players have just been discarding it without knowing about the true potential of this grenade.

The truth is that the Lure Grenade has an overpowered effect that can corner enemy Raiders looting a building in a matter of seconds. Just spot an area where an enemy Raider is (or several Raiders) and throw it near the windows of that area. Every ARC Enemy in a wide radius, and they'll attack whatever is in sight once they spot them. Skilled Raiders have been using them to guide Leapers and Rocketeers to enemy Raiders, and waiting for them to be exhausted and out of ammo and healing items to strike them down from behind. Or, in case of proficient hunters, they can use it to block an entrance and corner looting raiders, or simply flush them out of smaller POIs by swarming them with PvE enemies. Evil? Yes, but extremely effective.

When Camping, Use Traps And Grenades To Cover Your Back

Traps Are Another Overpowered Gadget That Many Raiders Underestimate

ARC Raiders Traps Are An Overpowered yet underestimated tool
  • Most of them work like a charm
  • They offer a great variety of effects

From the brutally effective Jolt Mine to the vicious Blaze Grenade Trap, there are many gadgets that help players establish a decent camping position, or simply trap other Raiders inside a POI. Creating a strangle-point in the main exit of a building and cornering enemy Raiders, is an effective hunting method that yields great results.

One of the favorite tricks of the Rogue Raider is to use the Door Blocker, and then fill the exit with traps, so once players breach the door, they will instantly trigger everything that has been laid on the floor, dying instantly due to the explosions and fire effects. Another effective method is to avoid looting an area, and then boobytrap every section of a POI, and then wait in a dark corner for Raiders to be weakened by the traps. Readers might question these methods, but not the results.

Launch Flares To Attract Opportunistic Raiders To A Trap

Curiosity Killed The Raider

  • No one can resist free loot
  • Awesome when doing 3v3

The Remote Raider Flare is one of the most vicious traps players can set up while hunting Raiders. This artifact can be placed on the ground, and then detonated remotely to simulate the emergency flare that is automatically launched when a Raider goes down.

Some less-than-honest Raiders will see this as an opportunity to score some easy loot and run towards the direction of the flare. That's when the true trap comes into play, in the form of an Osprey or Ferro bullet to the head. Readers know how the saying about curiosity goes, and in this case, that curiosity can be their best ally to hunt other players.

Use Voice Recorder To Set Up Traps

Attracting Raiders And ARC Enemies Into A Lethal Crossfire

Apollo sells Voice Recorders in ARC Raiders
  • Veteran players might discover the trap
  • Rookie players fall for it all the time.

One of the most impressive tricks in this game is the use of the Voice Recording Unit to simulate an open mic slip from a Raider team. As players might have guessed, talking through the open mic can be configured for only the team or all Raiders, but some players fail to do this and reveal their position to enemy teams.

The Voice Recorder is a device that can be set to simulate a conversation between Raiders in an open voice channel, attracting unsuspecting players and even ARC Enemies into a dangerous trap. Use this trick moderately, as the more obvious it becomes, the less likely it is to fail.

Pay Attention To The ARC Penetration Stat In Guns

Another Thing The Game Doesn't Tell You About

ARC Raiders Weapon Stat compatative Il Toro Burletta Anvil
  • The more damage a weapon does per shot, the easier it is to break opponents' shields.
  • Lesser fire rate, but more stopping power

There's an unwritten rule in ARC Raiders, and that is that weapons that are extremely effective against ARC Enemies do more damage to players as well. This doesn't happen because players are considered ARC Enemies when calculating the damage, but simply because the damage overcomes their shield's damage reduction. Though lighter weapons like the Buretta, or those who are better at close range, like Il Toro, do cause more damage, their capability to consistently overcome damage reduction depends on landing as many projectiles as possible (especially in the case of shotguns).

With weapons like the Osprey, Ferro, or Anvil, which have all the firepower concentrated in a single shot, damage reduction is overcome more easily. Next time players are left wondering why they lost a firefight against an enemy Raider using an Anvil or a Ferro, when they had a fully automatic gun, this is it: Remember: The more damage a weapon causes (per projectile), the more effective it is to overcome the damage reduction a Heavy or Medium Shield has.

Sometimes, Melee Is The Best Option

Raiders Underestimate The Power Of Their Melee Attack

ARC Raiders using pickaxe to kill drones
  • Can save you in a pinch
  • Good for close quarters combat

Swinging their Pickaxes (or Hammers) from long range might not be a good idea, but in close-up fights where guns tend to run out of bullets and aim might fail due to visibility or obstacles, Melee is King. Three melee hits can take down a Raider carrying a Light Shield. Four does the trick for a Medium Shield, and Six for a Heavy Shield.

Take note of this, and next time readers have cornered a player with a long-range weapon (like an Osprey or a Ferro) inside a building, jump to melee and circle around them as they swing. If they don't switch to melee as well, they are done for.

Corner Your Foes Using Gas And Fire Grenades

Grenade's Physics Are Awesome, They Can Even Penetrate Small Gaps

  • Can help draw players out of cover
  • Easy to carry around, hard to master

The devs broke the mold with ARC Raider s, and whoever programmed grenade physics did their job to the letter. But how does this affect players' PvP Skills? You might be wondering. The answer is simple: All non-contact Grenades (that is, those that don't have on-hit triggering effects) can bounce off surfaces, roofs, and even penetrate small gaps in cover.

For example, there was a match where the team I was part of got cornered in the Testing Annex offices. The enemy Raiders were using the desks as cover and shooting us to exhaustion, but one of the team members used a Gas Grenade and threw it through the gap in one of the desks. The ordnance exploded and forced the enemies to expose themselves, and they were shot down. Lesson learned: Gas Grenades are great thanks to their AOE effect and their delayed blast mechanic. Trailblazer and Showstopper Grenades are good for this, too. Players can practice using grenades for free in the shooting range.
