EA fans have discovered that Arc Raiders, the upcoming extraction shooter from Embark Studios, is being censored when typed in EA's PC app chat. There has been some negativity surrounding online extraction shooters these days, especially after Bungie's rocky and controversial unveiling of Marathon several months ago. However, one upcoming extraction shooter is managing to drum up a ton of hype in the lead-up to its full release later this year: the stylish third-person sci-fi shooter Arc Raiders.
There's also been a lot of buzz recently surrounding EA and its full reveal of Battlefield 6. Both the game's campaign and multiplayer trailers have been seeing impressive numbers, with the former even surpassing Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's reveal trailer in likes within its first hour online. It's clear that EA has been pouring a ton of its resources into Battlefield 6 after Battlefield 2042 largely disappointed at launch in 2021. DICE, Ripple Effect, Criterion, and Motive Studios are all-hands-on-deck for Battlefield 6, and as such, EA has extremely high expectations for the game's player count, hoping for 100 million players at some point in the game's future.
ARC Raiders and Battlefield 6 Are Cut From the Same Cloth
Embark and DICE share a lot of the same DNA, and the launch of ARC Raiders and Battlefield 6 could lead to a very interesting situation.
EA's PC App is Censoring "Arc Raiders" in Chat
An EA PC app user has discovered that when typing out "Arc Raiders" in the app's chat function, the game's title is censored with hashtags replacing each letter. WifiRouterYT shared their discovery with a short video clip on the Arc Raiders subreddit, showing how typing other EA competitors like Fortnite, Call of Duty, Escape from Tarkov, and Marathon doesn't trigger the same censor that Arc Raiders does. They even tried the stylized version of the title "ARC Raiders," but to no avail.
It's worth noting that Arc Raiders developer Embark Studios was founded in 2018 by former DICE CEO Patrick Soderlund, and that he's reportedly brought over a number of ex-DICE developers to work at Embark. Due to this, there may be some bad blood between EA and Embark. However, WifiRouter was also able to type in Embark's other online shooter, The Finals into the EA app's chat without triggering a censor. With Arc Raiders having a confirmed October 30 release date and Battlefield 6 also reportedly eyeing an October release, perhaps EA is taking steps to block the mention of its future competitor in its PC app to ensure eyes remain locked on Battlefield 6 this Fall.
Gamers looking forward to Battlefield 6 won't have to wait until the fall to get their hands on the game, as EA has recently laid out its plans for the game's beta period this month. Battlefield 6 is opening its early access beta window on August 7, and its open beta will kick off two days later, on August 9. As for Arc Raiders, with no new betas or playtest periods confirmed, eager gamers will need to wait until the title's full release on October 30.
