ARC Raiders Dev Shuts Down Potential Goofy Skins

Activision's recent U-turn on Call of Duty's cosmetics appears to have marked a major turning point for the gaming world, as many other studios are now reassuring fans that they won't be incorporating "goofy" skins into their titles. Battlefield 6 developer DICE was the most recent example of this, but now Virgil Watkins, design director for ARC Raiders, has told PCGamesN that the newly released extraction shooter will "maintain the current aesthetic." The developer goes on to assure the community that any upcoming cosmetics and skins will "fit within our sensibilities of how these things look and fit within the world and inside the fiction."

Watkins makes it clear that there won't be any silly skins in ARC Raiders, as he tells the outlet, "I think it was said a little while ago in a meeting [that] we would never, say, make a Santa Claus outfit." However, the director says that Embark would design something that suits the game's tone and aesthetic and "evokes a Santa Claus." Although some fans may worry that this could restrict ARC Raiders when it comes to cosmetics, Watkins says Embark still plans to give "as much freedom as possible" and allow the community to freely express themselves.

Embark's first outing in the extraction shooter genre is off to a flying start, as ARC Raiders passed an incredible player milestone just hours after its launch. While official data for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S is unknown, the title soared up to more than 264,000 concurrent Steam players on its launch day and currently has a "very positive" review rating on the platform. If Embark can nail the post-launch content as it did for The Finals, fans of extraction shooters are going to have a great time with ARC Raiders.
