Arc Raiders Reaches Incredible Player Milestone Minutes…

Arc Raiders, the multiplayer extraction adventure game by Embark Studios, surpassed 100,000 concurrent players within minutes of launching on October 30, and that number is only rising. Developed by the same studio that created 2023’s highly rated free-to-play first-person shooter The Finals, Arc Raiders throws players into a third-person PvPvE environment set in Earth’s distant future.

One of the key draws of Arc Raiders is its multiplayer aspect, allowing friends to enjoy the game together, no matter their platform of choice. The extraction shooter gives raiders 30 minutes to search for items, while also dealing with hostile NPC ARC robots and other players. Upon death, most equipment and other loot will be forfeit, and the goal is to safely extract items in order to sell them, craft new weapons, and upgrade characters. It's a gameplay loop that will be familiar to those who enjoy Escape from Tarkov and other extraction shooters.

Arc Raiders Hits Major Player Milestone Right Out of the Gate

Arc Raiders launched on October 30 at 2:30 AM PST, and within 30 minutes it had passed 100,000 concurrent players. At the time of writing, the game is approaching the 200,000-player mark, according to SteamDB. These numbers will not be unexpected to many, considering that Arc Raiders experienced a similar surge of players during its beta weekend in mid-October, when more than 185,000 people showed up to do some loot extraction and shooting in the sci-fi game.

Not surprisingly, the game’s servers are taking a beating, with many would-be raiders reporting difficulties joining a game and staying in it. So despite the recent Arc Raiders S erver Slam beta test, it seems that developer Embark Studios was not quite prepared for the onslaught of players eager to jump into the chaos. Though it might be frustrating for those trying to join a server, and dealing with frequent connection errors, it is possibly a good sign for the future of the extraction shooter.

Of course, extreme popularity upon launch doesn’t necessarily guarantee a game’s longevity. Amazon’s New World also experienced overwhelming numbers when it first released, and yet it was recently announced that the MMO will be receiving no more content updates, just four years later. Nevertheless, many people are hoping that the popularity of Arc Raiders lasts, as Embark Studios already has two more games in the works. Whether those projects see the light of day may depend, at least in part, on the long-term success of this new extraction shooter.
