ARC Raiders Reduces Price for Some Players

ARC Raiders publisher Embark Studios has announced a price reduction for its third-person extraction shooter ahead of its October 30 launch. The new pricing for ARC Raiders came into effect for most storefronts earlier this week, but not all users will notice a difference, as only select locations are included in the change. Embark says the reduction is to "ensure a fairer experience for everyone."

There are only three weeks left to go until Embark Studios' next big release, and while the publisher initially stated that there would be no more playtests for ARC Raiders before its launch this month, that plan has seemingly changed. Late last month, Embark announced a "Server Slam" playtest for ARC Raiders, which is set to take place between October 17 and 19, shortly before its full release on October 30. The test will be available to all players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with no code or pre-order required. It's unclear why the studio has opted to do one final playtest, but it's likely to stress test the game's servers in preparation for its release.

ARC Raiders Adjusts Price in Select Regions

With the release of ARC Raiders just a few weeks away, Embark Studios has announced some major news. In a new post on Twitter this week, the studio revealed that the game's price point would be reduced in select regions. According to a message on the official ARC Raiders Discord, the price changes will affect those in Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Ukraine, Uruguay, and Vietnam. Anybody who has already pre-ordered ARC Raiders in one of the aforementioned locations will automatically receive a refund in the coming days.

Embark didn't specify how much cheaper ARC Raiders would become in the listed regions, but with the change now live on most storefronts (Epic Games will follow next week), players should be able to see the new price point right now. When it was initially revealed, ARC Raiders was going to be free-to-play. However, during Gamescom 2024, executive producer Aleksander Gröndal revealed that the title would instead be priced at $40 as the premium model better fits the experience that Embark is developing. The developer explained that going free-to-play comes with trade-offs that would ultimately damage the overall product.

While the reception to ARC Raiders' playtests and trailers has been positive, the title seems to have had a rocky development process. The extraction shooter was once set to launch in 2022, but Embark recently said it delayed the title by three years as it "was not fun." Now, however, ARC Raiders is releasing in the same month as Call of Duty Season 6 and Battlefield 6, two heavy hitters with established player bases. But after finding huge success with The Finals, Embark may be able to cement ARC Raiders comfortably alongside this month's big releases.
